Announcing "Contrasting Colors" - Our January 2019 Photo Contest

Win prizes in our contest for January 2019

By PF Staff in Photo Contests on Jan 3, 2019

We're herewith announcing our monthly photo contest for January. The theme for this month is "Contrasting Colors".

The theme this month is "Contrasting Colors". However, whereas color theory has precise definitions for contrasting (complementary) colors and their placement on the color wheel, we adopt a more lax definition in this contest and just ask that your image provide some striking, clashing colors. Good luck!

First prize is a $50 gift card to B&H Photo, second prize is a one year forum account upgrade, and third prize is a box of photo paper form Red River.

The official contest rules are found here.

If you haven't done so already we invite you to browse our special gallery of last month's photo contest submissions and nominate your favorites.

The Making of "Autumn"

How the winning photo of the "Negative Space" contest was made

By Pande in Photo Contests on Dec 29, 2018

"Autumn" by Pande

Hello Pentaxians:-)

First of all, thanks to everyone who nominated and voted for my photo «Autumn». There were some quite good participants, who also deserved attention.

Negative space is an effect the creative art part of me like. And I use it quite often. It makes the elements stronger and gathers the whole focus on them. Composition is also important when we use negative space. The placement of the objects can make the picture stronger or ruin it. Mostly I use it in BW, with strong contrasts, since that in my opinion enhances the picture.

With this photo I wanted to tell about life coming to the last part, and where we dont know what the next step is, except that it gets darker.  It's like an old person, sitting and taking the last rest.
