How the winning photo of the "Best of 2022" contest was made

Hello and thank you very much. This is the second contest I won on PentaxForums.com and I'm very happy!

First of all thank you very much to all those who voted for me in this photo contest. I am happy for this result and thank you also to the organizers and administrators.

I am an amateur photographer of the "PHOTO CLUB AGADIR" located in Morocco in the city of Agadir. My submission for the contest was a photo of the Moroccan Fantasia locally called "Tbourida".

The Tbourida is an ancient practice in Morrocco. It consists of a group of around ten riders wearing the traditional costumes of their tribe and elegant djellabas. The saddlery of the horses is also well decorated with handmade embroidery.

The ensemble of riders and horses provides a very colorful and photogenic frame. I chose this photo to participate in this contest "Best of 2022" because I shot it at the beginning of March 2022 during the regional qualification for the national prize of this traditional and popular sport in Morocco.

With the Pentax K-3 camera and the Sigma 70-300 F/4-5.6 DG APO I used the following settings:

Focal length 93mm (about 140mm in 35mm) Manual mode Aperture f / 4.5 Shutter speed 1/6000

The K-3 camera was ideal for this kind of photos. I re-framed to the 5:7 aspect ratio and didn't do much post-processing except that I balanced the histogram to the left because the photo was slightly over-exposed even though the shutter speed was so high; I also adjusted the saturation a bit and finally I adjusted the colors with the adjustment layer "Gradient map".
