CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2012

CP+ is an international "comprehensive camera and photo imaging show" organized by CIPA (Camera and Imaging Products Association). CP+ opens today, February 9 and closes on February 12. The show is held in Pacifico Yokohama exhibition hall in, you guessed it, Yokohama, Japan.

This trade show is targeting both business users and consumers, and presents the latest products and technologies to help further develop the photo industry and photographic culture. This trade show provides the joy of "shooting", "viewing" and "linking" pictures in versatile formats from Yokohama, a city of photography, and propagates photographic and imaging culture from Japan to the world.

We are particularly excited about this year's show as a result of Pentax's aggressive marketing strategy and recent announcements of over 10 new products!

PentaxForums will have a representative present at the show and we will provide coverage of the Pentax booth here on our site on Saturday (Japanese time; Friday evening EST). We have also scheduled a meeting with Pentax and we expect to conduct an interview and present the immense following that Pentax Full Frame has gained over the past two months.

In the mean time, sit back, relax, and enjoy the hands-on coverage that's surfacing around the web.  Initial reactions to the K-01 are quite positive, and several hands-on videos of the camera have been posted on sites such as Engadget, among others!

In addition to the many imaging companies exhibiting at CP+ the event also includes a number of  photography related talks, hereunder a talk by Alliott Erwitt who will represent Magnum Photos, which is a group composed of and operated by the world's elite photo journalists. The group was founded in 1947 by Henri Cartier / Bresson (France), George Rodger (Great Britain), David “Chim” Seymour (Poland), and Robert Capa (Hungary), the latter being the brainchild of the group.

Another interesting event is a panel discussion led by Yasunori Ichikawa from the JCII Camera Museum, and including the following representatives from the imaging industry on the panel:

Takashi Suzuki (General Manager, OLYMPUS IMAGING CORP.)
Tatsuo Konno (Senior General Manager, CANON INC.)
Makoto Fujino (EXPERT, SEIKO EPSON CORPORATION)
Yasuyuki Nagata (Deputy Senior General Manager, Sony Corporation)
Tetsuya Yamamoto (General Manager, Nikon Corporation)
Shinobu Fusa (General Manager Products Planning Group, Panasonic Corporation)
Norihiro Sakaguchi (General Manager, RICOH COMPANY, LTD.)

CP+ also has an interesting Technological Academy where speakers from Canon, Casio, Fuji, Seiko Epson, Sony, Nikon, Olympus, and Ricoh Pentax each talk about an advanced product from their companies. Pentax discusses the O-GPS1 and its celestial tracking function "Astrotracer".

In the Pentax booth at the show Pentax is presenting the news that we have already revealed here on PentaxForums:

  • DA 50mm F1.8 short telephoto lens
  • DA 560mm F5.6 telephoto lens
  • DA XS lens concept
  • D FA 645 90mm F2.8 portrait lens
  • K-mount to Q-mount adapter
  • Q pinhole lens
  • Q telephoto zoom (mock up)

And of course the recently introduced K-01 mirror-less camera and Optio WG2 compact camera designed for use in tough conditions will both be there!
