Battery powers the exposure meter & controls shutter speeds.
Pressing the shutter button half way powers exposure meter.
Camera operates only at 1/1000 if battery's are exhausted/no baterries in it.
When camera is not in use, the main switch must be switched on the Shutter Speed Dial to "Off".
