Latest Review Posted Pentax *ist D
We must remember the early DSLR's really pale in comparison to the latest offerings by all manufacturers. I am not reviewing this camera in today's standards but rather for the time. I could not recommend this camera today. I have one and it's a pain to use compared to my much newer K-50. I remember reading an article in Popular Photography that any comparable film camera could "blow digital into the weeds" for IQ. They were right. We knew then that digital had a ways to go to meet the standards of film but not having to deal with film and processing was a huge step forward by itself.

Mostly I shot with the Pentax 50mm f1.4 film lens. I shot JPG because RAW was too slow and I was very pleased with the jpg images I was getting. Some of my best work was with this camera.

Even back then the LCD was terrible. It was only good enough to verify the picture was taken. But coming off of film I was used to setting the camera right for the conditions and firing away. Flash was incredibly good using TTL and PTTL...
