Latest Review Posted | Pentax ME I snagged a deal on a working ME in great condition. Just finished shooting a roll through it, so I haven't had it for long, but long enough to give my impressions.
I'm short, great camera as you would expect. Build quality is good while having a small body. Just know you'll be stuck in Av mode.
I actually shoot in Av mode quite a bit digitally, but part of the appeal of film for me has been using cameras that force me to shoot full manual. So that felt a little weird in that this camera is in Av mode all the time, with the ability to adjust a exposure compensation dial (which is quite handy). Once I got use to letting the camera choose my shutter speed the rest was a breeze. The camera is small and light, but still has the metal feel from cameras of the era. I really like that. Currently shooting it with a Pentax-M 40mm pancake, which makes it even more compact.
If you're used to film and shot cameras like this, you know what to expect. If you're totally new to film then I would just ask yourself whether you want to have full manual control or not. If you want the form factor but full manual, then I have heard the MX is the way to go. I haven't shot the MX personally, but it's essentially the same camera but with manual controls, and was Pentax's high-end 35mm at the time. |
