Pros: | very sharp macro mode, no CA's | Cons: | somewhat weak in edges at extreme winde angle, high ISO only with 5 MP | New or Used: New
| | excellent performer, but how to c h a n g e from good small camera of 5-6 points to an excellent performer between 9 and 10 points?
very sharp macro shootings with 160 iso and changing program to highest sharpness, color saturation and contrast. This is very important.
I've reduced my photos by -2 steps in menue, i.e. less light=> much more details.
1.In order to omit noise on high ISO range, it is necessary to reduce resolution from 12MP to 5 MP ,
2.But 80 ISO will give nice easy shootings. All my photos with i 10 are sharpened with photoshop twice, and contrast + color saturation impoved. By this way very sharp 10x15" prints possible.
3.indication of time and aperture, no CA's, small size, easy functions, very long life battery and very good lens sharpness between 10 and 16 mm (35 to 70mm approximately) => 9,5 points.
posters only after improvement by Photoshop (sharpened 170%-1,7pixels-0) within few seconds
for this very small camera usuablity: 10 points
lens in extreme focal length 7 points in the corners, 8 in the center
autofocus extremely quick and precise : 10 points
when controlling your photos on display, enter MODE and FILTERS. CONTRAST can be made higher. macro mode 1:2 very sharp by these steps. photos become really very sharp by this way.
try it. thank you. nb. I am using esecially the middle zoom range. results are similar to x-5 shootings !!!
9.5 points

Pros: | It looks like a 110, so fun to handle. | Cons: | A very average camera underneath. | New or Used: New
| | I bought this when the price halved as I wanted a Pentax compact to fit into my pocket. I had a Ricoh R8 which looked good, but the colour rendition is odd to say the least. So, I got the i-10 instead.
Good choice? Well, it is a "mini-me" in styling to the DSLR's, so a good talking point, BUT..This is a "Pentax Design" with third party innerds (rumour has it, it is a Sanyo camera - the same as most point and shoots made for branded companies).
The menus are not Pentax for a start, more a generic menu - the first hint.
Image quality -
Sometimes it nails it, most of the time it is soft, noisy and no matter what you can do PP, you are never going to get the best.
Low ISO - okay,
High ISO - forget it! Mind you it is still better than the aformentioned R8
Movie mode? - Don't bother, it is Awful! even in 720p. mode.
In the end, when I wanted a decent compact, I bought the Panasonic LX-5 (yes its not a Pentax, but it IS a million times superior to the i-10)
Thank god that Pentax have recently announced the MX-1, as that is just what I want.
Sum up.
would I recommend it. Well sort of, If it nails it, then it is fine, and the sheer fun of having a mini-looking DSLR in your pocket is great. On the other hand, if you ignore the looks, and want a tiny Pentax camera that is good, get a Q, or just wait a little while for the MX-1 to appear in the stores.
Still if you do like the fun looks of the camera, and are prepared to compromise on IQ other then excellent light, pick one up, but don't pay more than the cost of a 55mm F1.8 (ie about £30!)
Recommend, just for the looks, not for the performance.

Pros: | Works with Pentax IR-remote, Auto 110 homage | Cons: | No unique features, IQ only usable for social media | New or Used: New
| | This camera was bought to my sister as a present, but she got another compact that she liked better so it was given back to me barely used. I used it only for some small projects around the house and for a canoe-trip where I didn't want to bring my K-5, simply where I need a cheap camera that I don't have to be careful with. PROS- Works with standard Pentax IR-remotes
- Simple menu system, no need for the manual
- Nice Auto-110 looks that might appeal to some
CONS- 12 Mpixel worth nothing, just a blur at pixel level. IQ suitable for social media or very small prints
- Nothing that sets it apart from any other P&S (except if you like the styling)
12 Mpixel just crazy, does nothing but increase file size. At pixel level it is just a blur, even at lowest ISO. If you down-sample for social media they are usable though. This is basically just another simple P&S, like the once that has been around for 10 years now. It works alright, decent battery life, metering, responsiveness etc is all okay, but so are most other in this class today. I like to think of it as smartphone camera but with a optical zoom.
If you need a basic P&S and you like the styling, like Pentax and can find it at a low price, I think it will work alright. I wouldn't go so far as to recommend it to anyone though. My pictures with this camera on flickr | | |
