I jumped on the Xmas sale of this camera. I had initially decided against it until I read a post calling out the new sensor. Great praise. The origin review covered the new chip more so than the sensor. After reading the post and the sale price, I bought it. NOT disappointed :) The image quality alone is worth the upgrade. My KS-2 had a marginal improvement over my K-50, mostly in higher ISO. The KP is a vast improvement over my KS-2. Even in cloudy weather I'm picking up details that the KS_2 misses or muddys. I've gotten a custom to menu driven cameras and the menu layout works well. The extra control dials on the top are way more useful than I imagined. High ISO is great. I don't plan on using extreme but a clean 1600/3200 is great. The push button on the PASM dial I could do without. Tilt screen without the twisting is great. Now the ergonomics, needs more of a grip. I'm using the Large and the shape of it is awkward. I end up holding the camera more by the lens than the grip. Not cool. I've gotten some what use to it but still considering making a custom grip. I was one of the few that called the camera ugly. It still is, but with the Image Quality it produces I'm keeping 'My Ugly Child' for a long time ;)

Once again I've opted for the 'Mid' grade model rather than the 'Flagship'. And once again completely satisfied :) Let's get the ergonomics out of the way first. Gripping it sux. The thumb rest needs to be larger. I'm older with arthritis and would not trust myself to hold this camera without a strap. This being said, all the other features of the camera vastly out weigh the grip problem. I'll deal with it :) Image quality is outstanding !! A big step up from my K50. I can shoot at ISO 1600 and 3200 and get outstanding images. Using long glass in shaded areas, this is handy. Processing RAW files is simple, do minor adjust and export to .tiff. Process the .tiff with very minor adjust and have a great image. I thought of RAW+ , did it, and the SOOC JPG is OK. I get better results doing RAW with minor processing. It appears that the camera shoots and meters to bring out shadow detail. ETTR so to speak. I've been dialing in -.5 exposure compensation to get the exposure to my taste. Since I'm an Av and Manual shooter all the other bells and whistle may never get used. Interval maybe....... I got this model for the tilt screen and the LV with Focus Peaking. Gotten too old to be laying on the ground to shoot. A short tripod with the tilt screen solves that. Take a knee and tilt the screen. Works perfect. I don't know about bright sun and the screen, might need a brightness adjustment. As is it's faint. AF appears faster than my K50 also. LV AF is slower than View finder. I've shot with a 'K' lens on the camera and used Green Button exposure. Strange sound going on and will never try again. Exposure was Fair. I bought the Kit with the new Kit Lens. All I'll say on that is that at least it's WR.....LOL. If you have good glass you'll be disappointed :( Summary... This is an Outstanding camera that I'd recommend highly !!! UpDate 060916......... So it appears that the strange noise while using a 'K' lens is an auto stop down feature to not burn the sensor. weird.......... Still one heck of a camera :)))))) Update 09-09-16..... So I won't talk ugly about the grip any more. Found that if I treat it like my 'D' and roll the Pinky Finger under the body, All's Well.

Wow, I'm impressed. I upgraded from a K20D. Chose the K50 over the K3 since I'm an Av or M shooter. The less Bells and Whistle the better. The build quality is on par with the K20D, dimension similar, as well as weight. Ergonomics are different and it took a few shooting sessions to come to Grips with it. Kind of a cross between my ist D and K20D. Image Quality is outstanding. Big improvement over the K20D. Picking up some Detail that wasn't there previously. With my use of Long Glass I can shoot at Higher ISO and still have good detail. Shake Reduction also appears to be improved. Lack of a top info panel is not a problem, I like it. Having shot with an Oly E-PL1 rear screen display is a must for me. Control lay out is good and I enjoy having the LV button available. It's a Menu driven camera but that's not a problem since I'm an Av / M shooter. Set everything up and haven't been back since. I'd recommend the Camera to everyone, including folks that have always bought the 'Flagship' model.
