Description:
The Ricoh Theta V is a 360-degree spherical camera that builds on the previous highly-successful Theta models. It is the first Theta to offer 4K video recording as well as 4K streaming, and by far the most affordable option for this purpose at a launch price of $429 USD. The Theta V was announced on August 31, 2017 and was shipping shortly thereafter.

Pros: It's a whole new kind of image capture to explore
Cons: The battery life is very poor

I bought the Theta V when there was a discount available, because I was curious about its potential to provide very different views of the world. It does that very successfully, but personally I'm not really into what this camera is best for, and that's selfies. There's ways to take photos with the Theta without being in the photo, but it you take a casual shot hand held, you will definitely be in the original 360 degree image or video. So for folks who want a way to capture the scene in one image that says "here's me and here's where I am" you can do it instantly without having to put the subject behind you where you can't see it. On the other hand, if you want to see your pout before you press the shutter release, it's probably easier to stick to a phone.

I'll add more to the review later.

The phone app has "tiny planet" as one of the effects.

Or you can crop the image in the app.

It can be tough not to be in the photo, unless you use a tripod and remote trigger by wifi.

But as I mentioned, it's a fun selfie machine, if that's what you want.

Pros: Easy and fun to use with iOS APP
Cons: Must integrate the imaging of the Theta V with my still photography

I signed up last October as part of a special photography shoot and special access to AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX and Ricoh was there as a sponsor and they provide us with our own Theta V's to "play" with during our shoot. The Ricoh staff was very friendly and helpful...even with my Pentax K1 upgrade questions. For the overall event Ricoh were also running a special on the Theta V and I picked it up and have been thoroughly happy with the results. It's fun tool to play with and offers interesting applications for scenic, landscapes, and real estate photography. The images are completely compatible with social media 360 VR imaging such as embedded in FB. The iOS APP and selfie stick are absolute must use items. Image quality is exceptional for HD stills or videos. I do not have a 4K monitor so I can't speak to that. One needs to learn how to place the Theta V in the image in order to minimize your presence. Using a selfie stick and holding it straight up in the air is the best...or set it up on a tripod and get behind an object works too. Have fun!
