Super Tak 85mm on Ebay ... what have I done?!?

OH man ... LBA just grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me like a rag doll. There was a super tak 85mm with 0 bids for $249 so I pulled the trigger and now it's mine. Seems like its in nice condition. No hood, though.

I should not have done that.

I've been mulling over getting a tak 105mm (thanks, Mike Cash!) or a jupiter 9. And something tells me I would have ended up not satisfied until I got an 85.

*Sigh*

Did I do all right?

Sam

Never check prices after you buy something.

They also sell for more than that. Which one did you get? f1.8, f1.9, or (I think there is) an f2.0?

$249 doesn't sound out of line to me. I see plenty of them starting at $300+.

Enjoy your new lens and don't worry about what the next guy paid. Maybe his will be a dud and yours is perfect.. Never know.

I'm assuming the f1.9; f1.8 prices would have been higher. All the buyers on the next lens saw this one and had $249 in mind as their upper limit. Otherwise they would have paid more.

The hood is nice but you can get something equally functional. It measures about 70mm at the front and sticks out 31mm. For APS-C, you can go smaller than that.

Yeah, but if you had bid on that auction it very well could have gone higher. You did pretty good, enjoy the lens.

Great lens, very good price..... they usually go for at least $300. Most people on this forum actually prefer the Super 1.9 over the later 1.8.

As long as it's in good shape, that's a pretty good price.

At the risk of starting another club, we shoud have an 85mm club.

I had given up on finding an 85 so I went out and bought the vivitar 85mm F1.4 (KA mount), 3 weeks later I happened onto a super tak 85 F1.9 for a price that I have never seen one at before ( or after) about 40% lower than the typical selling price.

There was only one solution. I bought it.

The problem is, up until that time I had a firm grasp on LBA, only buying lenses faster than what I already had. But with the 85 F1.9, an smc tak 35 F2 and a vivitar 28 F2.5, I began to think M42 kit.

My adaptor resides almost perminantly in my K10D these days

With these 3 lenses as a basis, I have since put an M42 adaptor on my tamron 24mm F2.5, added a super tak 50mm F1.4, an SMC tak 50mm Macro, a helios 58mm F2, a tele lentar preset 135 F2.8, a preset tak 200 F3.5 and an SMC tak 135 F3.5.

I still need (maybe) something at 100mm but I do have 2 different 2x M42 TC's so I already have 100mm F2.8 with a TC on the 50mm.

Okay I guess I don't feel so bad at the moment. Just minimal budgetary guilt. Hope my wife does not read this forum, though.

Can't wait to mount that lens and give it a whirl.

By the way, Auction Sniper works out pretty well for me. I actually set a group of bids on a couple 85s and it is smart enough to stop all future bids once you win one of your auctions from that "bid group".

Thanks for all the well-wishing!

I am so freaking aggravated about this:

I haven't been able to nail anything under $300 plus that corresponded with a payday. I saw this one about two hours before the auction ended, and it was at the $240 or so.

First, I didn't bid because I figured someone was going to come in at the last minute and push the price to the stratosphere, and on Friday, I bought a 42" TV for $700 plus.

I WANT THIS LENS AND CAN'T TAKE THIS PAIN ANY MORE!!!

So now I have to wait until a week from Friday to have the bucks for it, and who knows if everything will jive. But I'll tell you this:

I'm going to check KEH every day (they haven't had any for a few weeks), and if one pops up, I'll beg my wife to put it on the credit card.

You got it a great price, and if you get it and have second thoughts about its usability, I'll GLADLY buy it from you.
