Pentax 70 Ltd Problem Yikes

I was doing another shoot for VOGUE on the 21 April. I was using my Ltd 70mm lens, which I have only used on a few occasions. What happens? Around the front element a piece of double sided tape starts to appear around the periphery ring, I take off my filter and the periphery ring that holds the element is loose. As I turn it to tighten it, more tape starts to appear. it is very narrow around 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch wide. The tape is very very sticky. I try to clean the lens and it gets worse. The tape leaves a residue on the front element that I cannot remove.

It gets even worse, as I cannot remove the residue with 90 alcohol. Don't want to use acetone. I finally give up.

Well I sent it off to Pentax and being that they now use a third party repair service I will have to pay a lot..This is a first. Anyone experience this problem?

No idea, but it is being repaired. That lens is sooooooo sharp and I need it for my beauty stuff.

If you have a friend that has one, borrow his FA77. At f/2.8 and up, no one will be able to tell the difference...

Duct tape is great for removing sticky stuffs. Gaffer tape will do too. Too late though for you.

Benjikan, may be it's a sign that finally you have to get that FA 77mm Limited. From my experience having both lenses for a while, the 77mm is sharper and it also has it's magic.

Don't want to sound pushy, but I strongly suggest you buy that FA 77mm Limited.

Scary stuff. I heard stories about front elements falling off certain lenses. But sticky tapes are a first. Good luck with the repairs!
