Pick my next lens

Ok..I have my base Pentax kit with my K-7 on the way. Now the fun begins...to slowly build myself a 'kit'...a far different approach than I've taken in the past.

So far I'll have the K-7, the K-x, the 18-55 DAL I, and the 55-300 DA.

I plan to add the next baby within the next 30 days....and my list is posted in the poll I'm a big fan of the Tammy (I've had one in every mount), I always wanted to try a Fisheye and I've heard the 10-17 is spectacular...and of course these primes are gonna be in my bag eventually...but what next? On one hand I'm really burning to get the FE....but on the other hand I'd like a good portrait lens as well so maybe one of the primes should be next? But then again...the 55-300 is a pretty good lens for portraits and I could make do with this at 55-70mm range at f/4 provides very pleasing bokeh.

Oh, decisions, decisions.....are fun I'll leave the poll for 30 days...

The Tamron on your list should really be the 17-50/2.8, if you want to replace your kit lens.

The only reason to go for the 28-75 on an APS-C camera is if you want to futureproof yourself for full-frame.

I voted DA40, though.

Honestly I'm not really a fan of the 17-50 range at all....too short for me on the long end for a walkaround zoom. Kit lens is cheap and sharp so it will do for the price.

That 28 to 75 is an outstanding lens.

The fisheye on the 10-17 is damn tempting though, I'll grant you that.

FA 50mm f/1.4 for portraits and low light (lower light than any zoom), great bokeh, tack sharp. The DA 40mm is great fun because of its size, but f/2.8 is limiting on a K-7.

If Tamron wants to do anything to promote sales, the least they should do is have a couple of their reps register here!

agree with audiobomber, you do not have anything really fast on the list - you need a fast fifty for portraits, lowlight and shallow DOF

As this is your next lens and you have much of the reasonable range covered. Go for the fisheye. It is a fun lens and early on with my first DSLR (k10) I went crazy with it. You will too.

Going on what you have already .... go for what you really want .... and that sounds like the FE to me. The 10-17 is a really nice lens ... wish i had the opportunityto get it myself (I opted for the cheaper Zenitar though).

The others you can get at a later date really.

I also voted fisheye, which was the first lens I got (though 2 more arrived within a week).

I voted DA40.
It's the best possible introduction into prime photography IMO...

I'm going to vote for the DA40... mine should be arriving very soon.

If the Sigma 30 1.4 were on the list, I'd vote for that. Sharp fast and wide. Even wide open it's pretty sharp, much more so than the FA50.

Not according to the MTF readings at Photozone. The 30mm is a bit sharper wide open, they're even at 2.0, the 30 mm is extremely sharp in the center with soft borders at smaller apertures. Looks like one could prefer either.

Get the DA 40 for now (before it gets too expensive to own). Save up for the 50-135 - during the saving time you can hope they fix the HSM issues (darn thing is very hard to find right now anyways). If it hasn't re-entered production by the time you're ready for your next purchase, then buy the Tamron.

I would have voted for a rectilinear wide angle or a macro lens, but they aren't on the list.
