new Pentax DA 55-300mm. 1st pics

I just received my 1st telephoto lens and decided to test its ability(I ordered from amazon and the box was CRUSHED). I think the lens is a good copy though and somehow undamaged, what do you think? These are all shot at 300mm from about 200-500, 5.8 - 7 or so, iso 200. handheld on jpeg mode with no touchup at all. If anyone notices anything to be concerned about other than I should be shooting in raw, please let me know, thanks!

Yes, I think that roof requires some repairs.

Seriously, they look fine. Maybe the pic of the roof looks a little soft, but looking at your EXIF it looks like it was shot at 300mm and 1/250th, so maybe a little camera shake?

My 55-300 is my goto lens right now. I prefer it over my 18-55, which seems a little less sharp.

Congratulations on your acquisition

I don't have one, but I have always admire photos which friends of mine took with theirs

Personally, I believe this lens performs far beyond expectations

As with all tele-lenses. We need to invest some time before we can realise their full potentials :ugh:

By the look of these initial takes, I believe your copy is a 'keeper'

You'll have lots of fun with it

I'm looking to buy that type of lens. What's that worth (ruff figure of course) in your location?

Any comments about the lens...heavy, good..great...etc

Here in Winnipeg, I chose to go the ebay route. I got a new one from Galaxycamera on ebay for $285 USD.

The lens is of course heavier than the 18-55 but not uncomfortable to use. I do find however the zoom ring a little stiff. The output from this lens is fabulous, even wide open. I tend to use it more than my 18-55 in low light situations.

I paid alot for mine through Amazon, $399 but I also purchased a hoya uv filter. $285 is a great deal congrads

I noticed you have DirecTV HD. Why did they route the cables over the roof like they did? The lens looks fine.
