Full frame or APS size?

Just a quick basic question for a newbie, What is basically the difference between an AF full frame lens and an AF Digital (APS size) or DX Digital (APS size) lens?

Thanks
jo

This belongs in the beginner section.

FF lenses will cover a larger, FF sensor size (35mm cameras, Canon 5D, Nikon D3) while crop sensor lenses will only work on crop sensor sized cameras (all Pentax DSLR, Canon 7D, 30D, 50D, Rebel series, Nikon D90, D60, etc).

FF lenses will work perfectly fine on crop sensor bodies. Crop sized lenses will not work well on full frame bodies. You will likely see some heavy vignetting.

If you own a Pentax DSLR, you can buy any APS lens without reservation. Pentax making a FF camera soon is indeterminable and in my opinion, unlikely soon. All old MF lenses are full frames I believe. I've been collecting MF lenses in hopes of Pentax introducing a FF DSLR someday. If not, I'll just resort to a Spotmatic.
