That's it. I'm done with this 85. Not worth it.

The Sigma is an outstanding lens, and I'll get
more use out of it.

Mind you, I like the images, and it was the
perfect FL for full frame. But in 2010 and our sensors, no,

I'll still stalk it in the future, because I know I'll lose my current auction.

But this is one that I'm happy to walk away from,

And as far as the DA 10-17, I would go for that instead, except Walmart carries the Sigma, and I get 10% off.

Why the "but"?

We're obviously completely aligned in our thinking here.

Clearly, you fit under the category of people I've listed (rich, ignorant and/or disposed with a great need for a certain lens).
I agree with you on the point of who is buying from him, but I disagree that he does not know much about lenses. Someone with an inventory that he has for sale most surely does know what he is doing and realizes the rarity of the lens.

Like I said I’d love to know where he finds his stuff, as most of it is close to mint condition and not the usual junk you see at swap meets.

A previous poster had hypothesized that the SMC 85mm 1.9 was priced unreasonably because of its transitional nature. Not many SMC 85mm were made and most 85mm 1.9s were Supers. I alluded that Gokevincameras doesn't know enough about Pentax lenses to be privy of that. He's priced the SMC 85mm the same way he's priced all his other lenses: high.

No one is disputing his business acumen here. He's the one who's made tens of thousands on Ebay.

Mostly, I've been defending Gokevincameras from people who has accused him of being "delusional". He knows what he's doing.

Yes, but in turn you pay FL sales tax of 6-7%. I would order it online from a reputable dealer at a lower price.

By my power, you shall not lose the current auction.

Germany only ? Matam, you live in Germany. Please buy it and sell it to Ira before he wastes his last money on other stuff. So we can enjoy his photos instead of his grumpiness

Oh ja, don't resell for US$775

PS Ira, do you mind a 1.8 instead of a 1.9 ?

I don't mind, although I heard the 1.9 is sharper.

Wait:

I said I give up! I have to finish this beer and take the family to see Iron Man 2!!!

I'm pretty sure the Sigma is coming into my life, especially if my wife has the available credit on her WalMart credit card.

She's the responsible one in the family, which is why I try not to disgust her too often by asking her to make love to me.

Intimacy is one thing, but compared to a new lens?

No comparison.

I thought the 1.8 one was the sharper/better lens? It has a higher rating on the lens review forum.

I read differently, but who the hell knows.

I want this lens and could have had it last month for a reasonable price, but couldn't afford it.

But the prices now are just plain nuts.

I visited Berlin in March of last year, I remember there was a giant flee market where you could pick up a ton of used photo equipment. I did not use Pentax back then but I saw a bunch of Pentax MEs and Pentax lenses. Too bad, if I had known I would have picked some up at great prices. My friend picked up a Pentax ME + 50mm f2 on the cheap.

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Do they still have Pentax lenses for cheap or has the price gone up like on Ebay and our marketplace?

I refer you to The Gospel According to Saint John, Chapter 11, Verse 35.

If you're quoting the gospel, I'm DEFINITELY done with this lens.

Oooohhhhhh......Now I'll have to refer you to the same verse, but in a red letter edition of the Bible.

This lens is a fairly rare transition model. Most F:1.9 versions are Super Takumars, while most Super-Multi-Takumars are the f:1.8 version. Still, this high of a price is unjustified. I suppose he's hoping someone will want this unusual version enough to grab it anyway.
Kevin serves a special collector market in CA who do pay his prices when they want a particular lens. I use the extensive photographs on his website as a reference and ignore the listed prices. Kevin has never accepted one of my low-ball offers.
