I sold my SuperTak 85mm f/1.9 on eBay 3 years ago for $129. Unlike this one, mine was only 5% minty.

This lens is a fairly rare transition model. Most F:1.9 versions are Super Takumars, while most Super-Multi-Takumars are the f:1.8 version. Still, this high of a price is unjustified. I suppose he's hoping someone will want this unusual version enough to grab it anyway.
You're over thinking this. His modus oprendi is selling rare lenses at exorbitant prices. Eventually, someone will bite, either out of sheer necessity, wealth and/or pure ignorance. I don't believe "gokevincameras" actually knows that much about lenses, only enough to have the presentiment to invest in them a few years ago prior to Pentax's meteoric rise with the K20D/Kx/K7. He doesn't need to sell a lot as the profit margin is huge, each lens he sells is at least four to five times what he's paid. I dare say this investment strategy is brilliant if not extremely ****ed up.

For the most part, I agree with your assessment. My post, while true, was understated.

I agree with what you are saying but… “Kevin Cameras” has over 3300 eBay feedbacks, so he must be doing something right. Yes his prices are high, but obviously not that high for some people, including myself. I have bought a couple lenses from him that I could not find in decent condition elsewhere. He preys on us folks with acute LBA that must have a specific lens right now at any price!

I’d be more irritated that he is finding all these lenses in great condition, which seem to evade most of us. No way he finds this stuff from yard sales.

Hey Ira didn’t you used to star in a TV show called “Soap” in the late 1970’s and your characters name was “Bob”? Is that you in the front row, second from the right? Wow you haven’t aged a bit! (Love that sweater!!)

Ira, if I may say, stay tough! getting a plasticky sigma lens to drown your LBA is too easy - and you know, it won't work!

Be like an iron-minded vulture: stay still, silent, observing coldly lens markets from the shadows (and eBay is by far not the only source!!) until you see your target, and.... SNAP!

I'm sure you will succed at the end.

:-)

offer $200 and see if it sticks as a bid

the seller must be an idiot to think any one will pay that much?

I paid $200 for my super tak 85F1.9, and while I have stated before that I have not ever seen that price anywhere, I can't imagine just one lens for $775. the price is more than I paid for my entire M42 kit, which includes the following

Tamron 24mmF2.5 with M42 adaptor
Vivitar 28mmF2.5
SMC Tak 35mmF2
Super Tak 50mmF1.4
SMC Tak 50mmF4 macro
Super Tak 85mm F1.9
TeleLentar preset 135mm F2,8
SMC Tak 135 F3.5
Takumar preset 200mm F3.5
Full set Ashai extension tubes
Ashai macro focusing helix 15-30mm variable extension tube
Tamron Multi coated 2x TC
Soligor 2x TC

Have fun with the 10-20
All these posts make me to want a bunch of old glass if it's any good but how will I be able to tell if it is and what the correct price would be? =P

----------------Hi!

I've wanted this lens for a long time, but I have a question:

Are you out of your mind?

$775?-----------------------------

Just sent.
The word "wanted", especially with "for a long time" will probably not give you the best deal

The price I paid for the super tak85 was the most I paid for any of the lenses in the post with my m42 kit. No other lens cost more than 100. The cheapest ( if that is the right word) was 9.

I also forgot to mention I also have a Helios 58mm f2

I made an offer of 50$. It got instantly declined, so the threshold is higher.
Who's willing to test higher values .

I usually express my attitude to price with low bids or offers.
When im really about to buy the item, i always offer/bid the price im willing to pay. If the seller declines it or counter offers something higher, i decrease my offer to show that the price is not fair. Third time i offer the same price as first.

Ah Gokevin once again. He's got to be either the most pricy or dellusional Ebay seller out there. Check out his other goodies.

I was lucky to purchase my Minty version of the 85mm f/1.9 off of JSherman himself ... a while ago.

I wont be selling it ... that's for sure.

Why the "but"?

We're obviously completely aligned in our thinking here.

Clearly, you fit under the category of people I've listed (rich, ignorant and/or disposed with a great need for a certain lens).
