PENTAX-DA★ 50-135mm Samples Collection

Since this lens is out in japan, japanese pentaxians are starting to get their hands on this lens and thus also starting to post pictures taken with it. So I thought we could start this thread to collect samples from this lens. I must admit this is one sexy piece of glass and I feel I am tempted to get one even though I have decided not to. It has some hard competition from primes in its range, competing with FA 50, FA 77, FA 100 macro etc. But it sure looks sweet. Im a bit nervous about spending so much money on a DA lens though, at least untill I see the anouncement for the k1d and see what sensor size it uses.

Well eanough about my ramblings, lets see some pics, please add more if/when you find some.

NOTE: THESE ARE NOT MY PICTURES! Just various samples found on japanese blogs

I checked out these images and honestly these shots did not impress me too much. Cannot wait for a review on photozone ...

Yeah me too roentarre... I have seem a lot of better images from 'lesser' lenses, not enough to make me rush out and replace my 17-70...

Of course if they have a built in focus assist, that would make a difference.

Maybe I'm just easy to please, but I reckon those shots look great.

The lens seems to be performing to expectations ie it helped produce a photo by allowing light in - remember much of the extra $$$ for this lens is in the fact it lets in a little more light.

Now I just need the $1,600 + and I will buy one. It is exactly the focal length I want, is fast enough for my needs and has the SDM (for when i get a K100D super -one day)

Its looking pretty good to me, sharpness is good and bokeh is smooth. I thought it was cool to look at the fullsize of the sunset photo and see all those small details that you didnt know was there from looking at the smaller version

I'm still setting money aside for the 50-200mm (the other "kit" lens)
I rarely shoot "wide open" - except in a few portrait situations. For the amount of money these will cost, I can get a K100D body, designate my K110D as a backup, and get the 50-200 kit lens too.

If I ever have $1k to spare and can't think of *anything* better to do with it, maybe I'll get a da* lens. Like they'll ever be in stock.

Thanks for this post! The link on the last picture here goes to the wrong place - I updated the link in my quote.

On the contrary, these shots impressed me a ton. These are way better than the Tokina version - I assume they were doing more than fiddling with manufacturing problems during the delay between the two.
CA is present but looks low to my eye (granted it is tough to spot on floral shots with lots of green and not much overall contrast to the scene) but more importantly the blur disk looks much smoother than I expected. I'll give the kudos to Pentax on this one.

Too bad it is a focal length that I already have covered many times over and this is simply a not-needed lens. Oh if this was an 80-200/2.8! Or they could have done what Olympus did with their smaller image circle and made an even faster zoom - constant f/2 or something at the same size as the FA* 80-200/2.8.

Hmmmm...

I don't see anything that can't be done as well with older (cheaper) lenses.

I admit I'm not a lens expert (or any kind of photo expert for that matter), but I can't get excited over this one...

These pictures look a whole lot better than those I get from my DA 50-200.

It will be interesting to see if I end up missing the extra reach of the 50-200 more than love the extra speed of the 50-135, and if so, what my options might be to fill the gap (been thinking about the 60-250 when it comes out, but think that's really overkill).
