Originally posted by yeedub So this 16-50mm lens is just over 2 years old, I may have taken around 10,000 pictures through it tops. I'm real careful with my stuff, and have used it with both my K10D and K20D.
The lens has slowly been getting less and less accurate focus and will sometimes fail to lock focus regardless of how bright or dark the scene is. I would have to spin the focus ring back and forth or focus it to infinity against the sky/ceiling before it would respond and focus again.
Anyways, sent it in to Pentax and my total repair bill is $305.98 Canadian dollars.
Parts replaced:

also the motor may have been replaced too.
I'm hoping they can give a little good will and reduce the cost a little bit!
Nope. Repairs are designed to be expensive. That $300 represents about 1/2 hour in labor and $50 in parts. If you could talk them down to $200 for some reason (known SDM problems), consider it miraculous.
