Tamron/Pentax 18-250-need verification before I buy

HI,
Is the Tamron here their version of the Pentax lens? Saw it available for good price and just want to make sure it's the 'real deal' and not that there's a few different Tamron ones before I buy.

Pentax SMC DA 18-250 mm f/3,5-6,3
Tamron AF 18-250mm 3,5-6,3 Di II LD ASL Macro digitales Objektiv for Pentax

Thanks, I await with eager breath and waiting to purchase.

(is lens smaller than 55-300? I know it's wider in circumference)
Cheers,
Patrick.

You need to rearrange it the other way. The Pentax lens is a rebadged Tamron. The only difference (and it is even debatable on this forum) is that the Pentax lens has the SMC coatings. However Tamron has their own digital coating to reduce flare etc. I have the Tamron lens and I am very happy with my photos produced with that lens.

Cheers,

I assume you mean the Tamron 18-250? All the Tamron 18-250's (and the Pentax 18-250) are the same lens optically, but results are not exactly the same in different mounts. A Canon uses a slightly smaller sensor, which changes the range (Pentax is 27-450mm in 35mm equivalent vs 29-480mm on Canon). Pentax and Canon cameras have different resolutions and anti-aliasing filters and use different settings for hue, contrast, sharpness, and saturation, so the image quality will be different. More importantly, the lens is not stabilized when mounted on a Canon, so make sure to keep the shutter speeds up. Even with these differences, it would still be a good idea to try your friend's setup to see how it feels.
