Do you own multiple copies of the same lens?

I must admit, for lenses I really love, I am always tempted to own a second and
usually 'better' condition copy

I wonder if any one else does the same

Perhaps you own a second or third copy........ for some good reasons :ugh:

Can you please share them with us

Is this LBA or is it worse than LBA

I own 160 different 50mm lenses, some of them are quite rare*. All from different makers, made for 35mm format. ranging in aperture ranges of f/4.5 to f/1.0

- I wouldn't call it LBA, I collect these stalwarts of photography. I use them as often as I am able.well, at least the good ones. There are some pretty spectacular dogs amongst them.

*I own a rather bizarre Angenieaux 5cm T=2.2 with a freakish 20 aperture blades. unfortunately, it's an early C-mount lens, so I have no body to use it on.

On Friday, I will get a second SMC Takumar 135/3.5. First one did not have a lenshood and no case, so hope that this one is complete. Couldn't let it go for the price (Yashica TL Electro, 3 lenses, teleconverter for approx US$40)

I own a bunch of different 50mm and an bunch of different 35mm, but none that are exactly the same. However I am on the lookout for good copies for both the Pentax A 35-105 and the Pentax K 135 F2.5 as my copies of both have developed problems. When I do get replacements, I will have two copies for each as the problems with the lenses are too big to sell, but I hate to throw them away.

I have:

2x s-m-c Takumar 35mm 3.5
2x s-m-c Takumar 55mm 1.8
2x SMC Pentax 135mm 3.5 (K-version)
2x SMC Pentax 50mm 1.4 (K-version)
2x 645-A 55mm 2.8
2x 645-A 75mm 2.8
2x 645-A 200mm 4.0

I bougt a second copy only if my first copy is in bad shape or if it was a very good bargain.

1.0?! I don't mean to hijack but could you tell me more about that lens? Is it the Leica Noctilux?

Use it on a GF1. Or, you can give it to me so that I can use it on a GF1 :-D

I have multiple copies of Helios-44 (though, different versions): Helios-44 58/2 (13-blades), Helios-44M, and Helios-44-6 MC. I also had a 44-7, but I gave it away.

In a slightly different way, I own multiple copies of Carl Zeiss Planar 80/2.8 in the form of: CFE Planar 80/2.8 for my 503CW, Planar 80/2.8 for my Rolleiflex SL66, 2.8C Planar on my Rolleiflex TLR, and as the optics used in my Hartblei Superrotator 80mm f2.8 (tilt/shift lens).

I have 7 or 8 different 55mm f1.8 Taks ranging from the Auto Tak 'Zebra' to the SMC version. I also have a Super Tak 50mm f1.4 and S-M-C version. The only other example I can think of is the FA 50mm f1.4 and M 50mm f1.4.

If you bring up focal length duplication, that's a different story.

I also have an Auto Tak 105, Super Tak 105 (and a preset version on loan), but the 2 earlier ones are optically different than the S.T. I have a preset 135 Tak and Super Tak version but they are actually different optically.

Now that you mention it, the various 55mm taks in my collection have different aperture mechanism and/or coatings even though they share the same optical formula.

I sometimes collect the same focal range, but not duplicate copies of the exact same lens. For example, I have the 83/1.9 Takumar, 85/1.8 AutoTak 85/1.8 SMCT, K85/1.8, and FA77. I have a really like the copy of the K85 that I have, but it is not "mint", so perhaps one day I'll end up with 2 copies. Eventually I would like to add a Super Tak 1.9 and the M 2.0, but I'll be bargain hunting for a while.

A pair of 28's

I have two of the same lenses, as close to identical as I could find.

You see, I love stereo photography. Two identical lenses on a pair of SLRs or DSLRs give the best stereo quality.

I asked the chap at the local used camera store (Paul, at the Henry's outlet) to keep an eye out for a matched pair of 28's. I assumed that would mean only the same brand, hopefully the same model. Within a week, Paul called me back -- he had a pair of Vivitar 28 2.8's. The best part -- their serial numbers were seperated by less than 100. This is the holy grail of stereo lenses.

I love the 28mm on a DSLR -- giving a perfect 42mm equivalent FOV. Just right for stereo photography.
