Should I sell my 21mm limited

My lenses are pentax 21mm* 40mm* sigma 10-20mm pentax 18-250mm and pentax m 50mm 2.0

I was wondering since I already have a 10-20mm and my 18-250, do you think I should just get rid of my 21mm limited and buy something else? Let me know your thoughts please.

I'd keep it. It's significantly faster than either of the other two you mention. Besides a zoom and a prime are completely different lenses. I have 35mm covered by 4 different zooms (Pentax A35-105, FA 20-35, Tamron 28-75 and Sigma 17-70) yet still reach for my FA 35mm on many occasions. But then again I like to shoot with primes.

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but do you use it?

I really liked the size and IQ of that lens, but I ended up selling it because it never seemed to be the right focal length for me, at least not for very long. I ended up getting a Sigma 10-20...

Tough to recommend something without knowing what you like to shoot, but a faster prime with AF might be a good idea, maybe longer for portraits. [edit, I see you have a 40mm --oops!]

My thought: Are there times when the 10-20 just seems like too much lens to haul around, so you put on the DA21 or leave the camera at home just so you don't have to manage such a big lens? You might do that more often than you realize - or you might never do it cause the big lens doesn't bother you.

Me, I'd keep it (I have the 10-20 and my next lens will undoubtedly be the DA15 because I loff Limited lenses). The photos you'll get from the 21 are totally different in feel & look from the photos you'll get from the 10-20 at 20mm

dsauna,

Difficult one to answer. I get some wonderful colors and rendering from that lens, but i have to admit, i don't use it a lot. I have the Sig 10-20 and use it much more frequently. I'm probably keeping it for the Kx i would like to buy at some point :-)

If you showed me the images you are most proud of, would they include any down at this range? Depending on where your most favored focal lengths are, probably thats where you should concentrate your primes. Unless you are trying to build a lightweight travel package. big plus for the 21, its so small to carry around.

best wishes

I wouldn't sell it.
And if you don't use it much, now might be a good time to start

If you don't use it, won't miss it, or need money, then sell it.

As others said, it's your call. I just got mine so don't plan on selling it For me it makes a perfect low light task force, along with the F50 f1.7. That's why I got it (oh! and the sheer pleasure of limiteds).

Your shooting habits should dictate which lenses to keep.

You could do what I did to learn to use it : leave home with only that lens, and see how that goes. If you find yourself wishing for a wider FOV all the time, then the 10-20 is a better choice. Otherwise, you might want to keep it.

Yes

To me (for a cheap price!)

Joking aside, it probably depends on how much you value compactness and transportability.

The DA 21 is not a replacement for the 10-20, neither is the DA15.

Having said that, it comes down to whether you use the 21 enough to justify keeping it.

The DC area is loaded with wonderful scenery. Have you taken the three lenses out and just shot the same scene with each and then back home, looked to see what appeals to you the best?

If you were to sell it, what would you buy - if anything?

That is the main point for me. The DA40 and DA21 are a nice compact pair. The beauty of this pair may be less obvious on the K20d (though I often used it with that body) than on a K-x. If there is a K-x anywhere in your future, you will lust after all of these compact DAltd beauties.

Maybe the 21mm focal length will work better down under. Why don't you give me the lens and I'll let you know?

It's a nice size (i.e. small) but if you rarely use it because you use your other lenses of similar FL, why hold onto it?

I'm a bit in the same situation (owning a 21ldt, 40 ltd and sigma 10-20).

I love the size and quality of the 21ltd, so I'm actually thinking in selling my sigma 10-20 and maybe getting later a 15ltd (because I like very wide angle) or eventually a sigma 8-16 depending their prices to have better range covered.

NO, don't sell it. I actually sold the 10-20 and got the DA15, as the 10-20 is so huge.

The 21 and the 40 is an excellent pair with any Pentax camera. I use the 21 and 43 with a K-7 when I don't want to carry a camera bag. I carry one lens in the pocket, and the 40 is even easier. For a wideangle lens, it's got excellent IQ.
