LBA - Vivitar 24mm f/2 MC

Found a Vivitar 24mm f/2 MC selling locally today. There is a small ding on the filter thread but, filters screw on regardless so it's just cosmetic.

I took a few quick test images of my daughter. f/2 is very useable with just a touch of softness, PP sharpening helps plenty. f/2.4 and up cures that completely.

Here it is on the K-x;

Ira, I don't generally do this but, here are some 100% crops at f/2, 2.4, 2.8 and 3.5

Photo Gear Photo Gallery by ajuett at pbase.com

f/2 is soft but, when viewing at a reasonable size (not 100%) and slightly sharpened its pretty good. f/2.4 looks better and f/2.8 is great, imho.

Ajuett: Oh, I paid $90 CDN in a shop, not a private sale.
That's a great price for the f2 version--good for you! I saw a Kiron 24mm f2 go for $200 on the Bay recently. And that is a great lens to have in the bag---I find 24mm my most useful FL for landscapes. Congratulations.

Yes, I would agree with you Stefan. The Komine made Vivs I have used were outstanding.

When I found the shop had the Vivitar 24mm f/2 I asked the filter thread size. On this particular model the 52mm filter thread version is made by Komine and the 55mm is made by Kiron.

Komine's S/N begins with 28...
I have a Vivitar (komine) 28mm f2.8--outstanding. My main low light wide lens.

Thanks for that tip. I only knew the difference for this particular 24mm lens and that is the filter size. In the future I'll look out for that serial number sequence.

Doesn't list serial numbers, but it looks like my 24 2.8 is Kiron (376XXX).

But I was surprised to learn that my 28 2.8 is Tokina-made (372XXX).

Edit:

Seems weird that as long as Vivitar was around, they only had one 28 2.8 in manual focus? Because that's all Wikipedia lists.

For all of their lenses (at least the Vivitars)--but I guess you've already figured it out.

Thanks. I'll look for that when I see any Vivitars for sale.
