D-FA 50mm Macro vs FA 50mm Macro

Looking to buy a 50mm macro for my K7,
There is a used FA 50mm in the marketplace for $330.00
or
should I buy the newer D-FA 50mm for $420.00 from B&H

Dear kuau:

If you are referring to the current listing of a 50mm Macro by fellow member yyyzzz, then I think you are mistaken. It's a SMC F and not FA that's on offer

From what I know, optically the F, FA and DFA are similar :ugh:

Both F and FA have metal bodies, whereas the DFA is constructed with polycarbon

The DFA has quick-shift which can make switching from manual to auto-focus convenient

But really. If your intention is to do macro exclusively with it, you'll be doing manual

I have the FA version and loves it. You may refer to my earlier postings for some pictures taken with it

But really, I have handled the F version before and it's a fabulous piece of art

If I haven't got my FA, I doubt you'll still find it on offer now

Doesn't the DFA version also offer the clamp feature in addition?
It is useful to fix the magnifitation ratio. It is also very well suited for use with the AF160FC ring flash.
I'm very happy with the DFA.

I've used both FA and DFA 50mm lenses. The FA has a punchier color but isn't as contrasty as the DFA version. I prefer the FA because of the better build quality but like the quick shift of the DFA better. Can't go wrong with any of them.
