As far as I'm concerned both are beatiful. The only thing I have to add is that when you use the 77 in a film camera with a big viewfinder you will be blown off your shoes.

All in all, I think it thing boils down to this:
70: a lot smaller (no aperture ring helps), a lot cheaper, a little slower, lighter. Beautiful rendering. Sharp.
77: small and useable in older film cameras, a little longer fl, a little faster, light, somewhat expensive. Extremely beautiful rendering (aka pixie dust). Sharp.

Both are excellent lens and if you like the focal lenghts and can have a 77 for cheap, get one. OR If you can find the 70 for cheap, get one. OR if you are filthy rich, get both and send me one.
