FA 77mm limited vs DA 70mm limited

I just got a FA 77mm from B&H the other day for my K7 I really like it, but now I am thinking maybe I should have saved $240.00 and got the DA 70mm instead.
I can still return it to B&H and exchange it but I am not sure.
Of course what I was thinking is the FA will prepare me for Pentax FF but that may never happen??
What would you do??
Keep the 77 or exchange for 70?
Oh yeah I hardly ever shoot wide open either

I can tell you what I did, I went with the FA 77mm from BH in late November. I use it on my MZ-3 and the Aperture ring allows for easy Av operation. It was a close decision. However, I like the aperture ring, and extra 7mm.

Unless the extra dollars are a significant financial issue, keep the 77.

Never second guess yourself on a purchase like this. I have the DA 70/2.4 and I'm happy with it. Most folks seem to think your lens has something special, a pixy dust effect, and it comes with some bragging rights. In any case you have a great optic. Go out and have some fun with it.

Keep the 77. Read this thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/99138-extra-%2...er-da70mm.html

I don't know if this should factor into your decision, but the DA70 has been shown to work well on full frame.

Thanks for all the responses.
I am sure for my needs always looking for the sharpest image the DA70 would be fine.
I guess I want to keep believing that pentax will release a FF DSLR and the 77mm is the one to have.
Yet if they do, I can assure you if it's over 18mp then only the best of the best lenses will work.
No way will DA lenses work well at all.
Decisions decisions......
I think will return my 77mm for the smaller 70mm,
The one reason I purchased a Pentax was because of it's small size...

Bear in mind that at almost any aperture the 77mm is sharper than the 70mm.

I just got myself a used DA 70mm/2.4 and I already have the FA 77mm Ltd

It's the LBA thing that bugs me since I always curious as to how these 2 lenses perform.
Initial impression is that Quick Shift feature on DA 70 is really nice.
Basically it help me to change the focus point on the fly without having to flip the lever from AF to MF. That's really handy compared to FA 77.
It's focus is dead on with my K20D.

Last time I tried Ned B's DA 70 on my K20D, it feels very fast but this time I can't really say the same after having FA 77 at the same time.
They lock almost the same, if there is speed difference in locking focus I guess it's not that much.

Well, I have to wait until I have more time to do more extensive amateur IQ test to see which one I'll keep.

Another thing to keep in mind. The FA lenses will autofocus with teleconverters such as the Kenko AF 2X Teleplus MC7. This is handy if you need more focal length. But I find that none of my DA lenses will autofocus with a teleconverter such as the Kenko on my K7. That is why I am going to buy the FA 77mm instead of the DA 70mm even though it is ridiculously more expensive.

According to Photozone's tests, this may be relative to one's definition of "sharp." While max center sharpness is better on the 77 at its best, edge-to-edge sharpness goes to the 70. Really doesn't look like there's much of a sharpness advantage to either.

The DA* lenses won't because of the SDM but I have no problem with teleconverters and ordinary DA lenses.

This is new to me.

I have a Tamron 2X TC and a Tamron 1.4X TC. I don't normally use TC with DA Ltd lenses. But when I do, they autofocus fine.

I'm not sure what the problem is with the Kenko you mentioned.

I have both the 70 and 77. They are relatively interchangable, but I have found that I prefer the 77 in the studio by a small margin and the 70 for everything else, mostly because of the smaller size.
IQ wise, it's a wash. Both are excellent lenses.

I stand corrected. With further experimentation DA 16-45mm f/4 and DA 21mm f/3.2 both autofocus with the Kenko converter. Not that I would have much practical use for doubling the 21mm.

Your reference to SDM reinforces my desire that Pentax come out with a TC that is compatible with SDM very soon.
