Do I need vivitar 200mm/3.5?

I have a vivitar series 1 70-210 v.1 already. Do I need vivitar 200/3.5? If yes, what would be a good reason? No need to zoom, light(er) weight? How would you compare the IQ?

It all depends.

I have the S1 Version 1, constant aperture F3.5. It is in K mount.

I also had enough M42 lenses that if I was going to go out and shoot with one, I wanted to have a full M42 Kit, so against my own LBA rules,(never purchase a lens unless it is faster than what I already have) and bought an M42 200mm F2.5 (in my case a preset takumar with 18 blade aperture)

It is a full duplicate in focal length, but it is a wonderful lens to use.,

I have the Vivitar 200/3.5 but not the Series 1 70-210 zoom. I reach for the Pentax-F 70-210mm f4-5.6 zoom almost all the time, a lot smaller and lighter than either Vivitar. I'm not sure which is better in IQ. The Pentax is excellent even wide open, but the Vivitar would be stopped down. For travel, the Pentax definitely wins - I don't think I'd ever bring something as large as the Vivitar zoom. I don't think I need it at all.

If you need close-focus at all, I think the Series 1 zoom wins. The prime only focuses to 6 feet.

The Vivitar 200mm f3.5 has one advantage, it's pretty common on eBay in M42 mount. You can find them really cheap, like $25 shipped cheap. At that price, even if you don't need it, it's cheap to have it.

Other than the smaller size and lighter weight I don't see any significant advantages. I've got a decent 200mm f/3.3 prime that I haven't touched singe getting the much more versatile Vivitar zoom.
