The big rubber end and the size of the markings on the internal surfaces give it away.

This is a good game though! Someone should start a "name that gear" thread where people post close-ups of a piece of gear and gradually zoom out until someone guesses it!

Thanks for playing everyone. The folks that guessed "binoculars" were right.

I was in the market for some good binoculars. I wanted something around 8x and I wanted a relatively large objective lens. Also, I wanted the best eye-relief I could get since I wear glasses. I chose the Pentax 8x43 DCF ED.

These are the nicest binocs I have ever owned. They are waterproof, fogproof (nitrogen filled) and ruberized. They have the best eye relief of any brand I have seen: 22mm. A typical value for this class of binocular is 15mm. The optics are fantastic, and they are so comfortable because of the eye relief and the brightness.

Want to know the best thing about them??? No SDM!!!

They should last forever.
