Fa 50 1.7

You do pretty well with your M 50 1.7!

Based on what I see in the lens review data base, watching it in the market place, fleabay, KEH etc, I think the FA 50mm f1.4 is more common on at least a 10 to 1 basis in the wild.
It might be because once you start snapping with it, you don't want to sell it.

That being said, I sold my first copy, regretted it, and eventually found another.

It's sharper than my FA 50 1.4 was at the larger apertures, better than my Nikon 50 1.8D at pretty much every aperture.

I think the F (not FA) 50 1.7 is actually more common, and really is just as sharp, I think. I owned both the F and FA at the same time, and sold the F, mainly because I liked the build of the FA better. But don't hesitate to pick up an F if you find one.

Now, that FA 135 2.8 - I'm drooling here. Pentax needs to re-release an updated version of that as a Limited, IMO.

(And can I join the chorus asking.... How much?! )

Very nice! Let's just say, I've had similar fate with FA lenses In fact, we've got two copies of each (complete coincidence though), LOL! It's great that yours also came with the original boxes, though. Once Pentax releases an FF camera, those will be quite valuable (not that they aren't right now )!

I'm still very hopeful of a Pentax FF dlsr. although I must admit that the 5d MKII smell very tempting and Pentax should be thankful that their lenses don't fit that well with the 5D full frame system. maybe Sony would be a much better choice, if they would release a better and cheaper FF dslr (I dont like the A850).

I must have a reasonable amount of luck...a few years back a local camera repair shop had a F50/1.7 for $50, I let a friend of mine have it who just got into K-mount cameras and I already had/have a 50/1.4 SMC Takumar that I love to death.

As for prices and what I paid for each, I just made a bulk offer...I could split it up to say what I paid for each lens, but it's pretty arbitrary. It was a good deal for sure. I think the big problem will be letting go of these lenses or deciding to go ahead and use them...they all get simply rave reviews. I'm usually much more content buying used equipment, I'd hate to mount these and use them and decide later they weren't my style when someone out there who actually wants NEW gear would be much happier with them than I...

It was dropped by a family member, and rolled all the way down a concrete driveway. Needless to say its in bad shape. Somehow im still able to get decent macro's with it, but regular shooting is impossible with it now Nowaday's they go for ridiculous amounts (see $100+) which is way to much for me.... I got mine in great condition for $30 and that was normal!

So yeah, I am missing my most used focal length

Adam for the record, these lenses didn't just come in original boxes, they are all brand new in box with serial number cards, manuals, leather cases and plastic wrap (!!)

Yikes, sorry to hear that.

$100 for the M 50 1.7? I've bought and sold those for usually around $40-50....

PM responded. Thanks!

As for the thread: I second Jay in saying I have changed my mind..... Pentax needs to add a DA 135mm F/2.8 limited.

I think the rank on how common these autofocus lenses are:

1. FA 50mm f1.4
2. F 50mm f1.7
3. FA f1.7
4, F 50mm f1.4

I suspect the F 50mm f1.4 to be the best, but it could because it is harder to come by. The test specs I've seen for the F 1.4 and F 1.7 are nearly identical. I agree that they should do a FA 135mm f2.8 ltd. Hell, I'd settle for a DA f2 ltd.

Pentax SMC FA 50mm F/1.7 Lens - eBay (item 320535147915 end time May-25-10 17:16:08 PDT)

Here's an FA 50 1.7. I can see it getting pretty expensive.

There are about 35 FA f1.4 that will probably sell for more. However, this person must be tripping on some bad drugs or something.

SMC PENTAX FA 50MM F/1.4 - eBay (item 130390691319 end time Jun-10-10 09:18:53 PDT)

$611.26 for a used FA 50. Why $11 and the .26? HystericalWhy not 610 or 615?
