FAte and some rare FA's

Normally I can't stand it when people post their latest gear purchases, but I thought I would share my amazing find. I doubt I'll ever see so much nice glass sitting together in one place again any time soon. I have to decide what to keep, and the rest will hit the marketplace here or ebay.

These lenses all came from a camera store in a far away land that had changed ownership and needed to clear their new old stock that had been shelved for years. Sure the limiteds are nice, but I just can't help but wonder how many brand new FA 50/1.7 and FA135/2.8's are still left in the world!

Nice find! Sent you a PM. Keep me in the loop on what goes up for sale. I've been eyeing nearly all those lenses...nice to deal local and help out a fellow Pentaxian.

Nice catch there, Damian!

Yeah, no real valuable input here, I know... but I just wanted to say Hello to another former A-mount user, and fellow Dyxumer

woooow.

You can tell us how much you paid for all? Dying of curioasity... less than 1 KUSD?

That will not decrease the prices for re-sale, because if one gets a bargain, it's only one's luck

The FA 50mm f1.7 may have been the least common AF 50mm lens produced by Pentax.

What I want to know is the price.

Seriously, I'd love to find an unkown camera shop with those kinds of things. The only camera shop with older stuff (and used lenses) around here overprices so much it's not worth it...

Info at Pentax Normal Prime Lenses puts the FA50/1.7 as being manufactured until 2004. I wasn't aware it was any less common than the other 50mm lenses, and figured there would be just as many in the used market as the 50/1.4. Of course it's probably not too common to find a NIB lens that stopped production 6 years ago...or 10 years ago in terms of the 135mm!

They VERY rarely show up in the market place/ebay. I'd do just about anything to have just one of those lenses... even the FA 50mm. I need my first AF prime

Based on what I see in the lens review data base, watching it in the market place, fleabay, KEH etc, I think the FA 50mm f1.4 is more common on at least a 10 to 1 basis in the wild. I don't know why for sure, but the FA 50mm f1.4 is still in production even though Dimitrov said it went out in 2004. That could be part of it because it was a good seller until they stopped making it briefly and prices went from $199 to $359 shipped at BH.

Its currently listed at Pentax Imaging

smc PENTAX FA 50mm F1.4 - Official PENTAX Imaging Web Site

and is available at BH & Adorama

Pentax | Normal SMCP-FA 50mm f/1.4 Autofocus Lens | 20817 | B&H

Nice find, and don't worry, some of us love "latest gear purchases" threads!

Oh, and the thread title is classic.

brad, how much did you pay for the entire lot?

for the FA50/1.7 ?
for the FA135/2.8 ?

don't worry, I already got both in the bag. I don't have to mug you anymore if that was your concern, lol.

anyway, it took a lot of waiting, patience, convincing, and luck to get both lenses.

I got the FA50/1.7 after I missed out on an F50/1.7 which was sold for $130 bucks. only got the FA50/1.7 because it got a BIN option and decided not to bid on it since the bidding price is getting close the BIN price and some bidders are too tentative and naive to pull the trigger on such a rare lens (much rarer than the F50/1.7). it only gets sold once in a while on eBay and marketplace and is a very quick sell if you ask me. it doesn't take a day to get rid of it.

just got the FA135/2.8 this year out of luck. since I missed out a copy last year. the 2 copies on KEH this year is all but gone. there is also one copy that's in the marketplace right now.
