If you want to save get 43ltd and K55.
I can't speak for the 43ltd but I do have the K55 and it takes beautiful, clear pictures with excellent bokeh at f/2. Only downside for me is you don't get the aperture information from the shot because it has no "A" setting.

The FA43 is likely the best lens Pentax makes. Not only is it sharper than everything else at f/4, it's got personality.

If I didn't have several f1.4 & f1.7 lenses I may think about it differently but I were to get something in the range it would be the 43mm ltd. If I wanted something over 50mm and fast, I'd probably look at the Nokton 58mm f1.4 even though its mf.

I am with you, mz-3, eagle, JHD. Love my DA40. Some here have dismissed it as worse than the FA43 at every aperture... I almost can't believe a lens could be better than my DA40. But I can't bring myself to drop $500 or more just to prove it. I have even been a little disappointed with the DA35, as it just doesn't quite seem to measure up.

alfdog - I don't think you can go wrong with either of those two, but I wonder if the DA55 is really that much of an upgrade over your old FA50.
I like the DA40 honestly speaking. eventhough that some people would prefer the DA35 over it. I had tried both lenses and honestly, the images that I saw from the DA40 were much pleasing for me compared to the DA35. and we know what the DA35's reputation is. if the DA40 made me like the lens over the DA35, what do you think it would do against the FA43. only advantage of the FA43 is a stop faster. other than that, they would be equal. oh, and the DA40 is a cute lens too.

is that really an issue for you? spot metering would be, but I can live with average metering. I can still get great images.
