Price of limiteds

Is there a good reason why the FA limiteds are more expensive than the DA limiteds?

Yes; the FA limiteds are faster, use more glass and in optics more optical glass costs considerable more money.

and FAs are compatible with a potential future Full frame (and already existing pentax film 'full frame') cameras, which justify to some buyers the extra price in view of having a full frame pentax in the future

Just hold a DA ltd in your hand and you will understand right off why they are higher priced. They are reasonably priced compared to Canon and Nikons high end lenses. I can't afford them at the moment but I'm not passing them off as overpriced.

The FA ltd lenses also ave the aperture ring. I agree that the DA ltd lenses are a little more expensive than the should be given that I'm guessing that Hoya pays less for assembly costs than they would have in the old FA ltd/FA* plant.

Hoya have decided that they want in on the Gillette model. Cheap bodies and make the money on what goes on them. Seems reasonable.

Compared to what? Who else makes lenses even remotely close to these for cheaper?

Someone doesn't have to make something cheaper just so that we can call it expensive Marc....

Personally, its hard to justify ~$350-$380 for the DA 40mm (and I've been wanting this lens since I got my first Pentax).....

(not to mention the fact that it was $250 not long ago )

At $250 the DA40 was a steal, now it's about the right price where it's at compared to other lenses. Maybe it could be a little closer to $300 than $400, but for what you get it seems pretty good. The DA Limiteds only seem expensive compared to what they used to cost.

The only reason this is really a problem is that, as many have pointed out, Pentax doesn't have any affordable prime options at $250 or less any more.
