I'm looking for a lengthier standard type zoom. The Sigma 18-125mm f/3.8-5.6 OS HSM and also Sigma 17-70mm Macro are on my list. They are $30 difference from each other. The greater reach and HSM of the 18-125 would be nice but the very slight speed advantage of the 17-70 might come in handy now and then. OS doesn't matter so its not a concern. Any recommendations? $400ish CDN (minus tax) is my limit.

I'd recommend the 17-70, as it's only a 4x zoom and chances are that the IQ will also be much higher than that of the ultra zoom 18-125mm
