f/2.8 lens for pentax k-x

I'm going to buy Pentax k-x, but haven't decide on the lenses yet.

Any recommendations of f/2.8 lenses? I'm considering Sigma, but I'm not sure...

Up to 100 I guess. It is going to be a "general purpose" lens mostly for relatively close distance - kids, etc...

I would recommend for a beginning lens Tamron's 28-75 f/2.8 or it's only digital (and a little smaller) 17-50 f/2.8. The 28-75 is excellent and as i've read the 17-50 is as good. If you're not thinking of super-wide angle photos, I would personally be inclined towards the 28-75 for the reach at the long end and because of it's really close focusing capabilities it's a lens that you could use for flowers and the like.
Before you buy it blindly, try it at a store for checking the weight. It's a little on the heavy side for me.

You can check different lenses and some reviews of them from pentax members here:

Thanks! I will check the Tamron.

BTW, while we are on the subject, do you have any idea why body only k-x costs more than the one with the kit lens (which I don't probably need anyway).

Again - thanks.

I personally like the Tamron 28-75/2.8 a lot as well. The combination of size, cost and IQ is excellent.

Not sure about the pricing of the Kx vs Kx+18-55, but if that's the case (and you do buy the 28-75) the kit lens would come in handy when you need something wider than 28mm.

If you get a discount buying with the kit lens, by all means get it. It's not the best lens you'll ever see but it's not a lazy one either.

Sometimes there are special discounts, so you may as well take advantage. (You can always sell it)

Yeah, it scaped me completely. But for starters I always prefer to recommend a good quality and cheap zoom, hence the tammy. If weight is your priority the DA40 will blow any other lens out (and comparing to even smaller lenses, blow them in IQ). The DA 40 is one of the sharpest and with great image rendering of the ones I've seen. I haven't used it but I've seen photos from my friends and they are spectacular out of the camera.

If you don't care about fixed focal length lenses, the DA40 is a "cheaply priced", high quality lens that you really wont regret, as mz-3 said.

The 40mm is one of the sharpest and most colourfull lenses I have, and I have a 55mm/1.8 K!
This one is just as great, different though, and te focal length resembles the one of a 55mm on full format, so a very nice standard lens.
I hardly take it of my K10, though I must admit that I have a K20 aswell..........

get it when you can.............
