Pentax SMC A* star 135mm f 1.8 - eBay (item 320539126522 end time May-27-10 07:04:28 PDT)

Purchased. LBA sated.

All I can say is this lens better live up to the hype.

Ultimately, Adam is the one that pushed me over the edge with the "don't expect to see this lens for less than $2000." When this showed up on ebay this-morning, the buy it now was irresistible.

Now if the 2000mm would just show up for a reasonable price... Actually maybe it better not, after this, my missus would kill me.

I really want one of those, but I'm still betting on "finding it mislabeled at Goodwill", because that's the only way I'll ever be able to afford it!

Sorry, but that's just nuts. For that money, you could have bought a new Carl Zeiss 135/1.8 (which is probably sharper and it also has autofocus) and an a-mount camera to use it on.

Amazing what rarity can do to lens prices!

ps-this is coming from someone who paid three time the averange price (when available) of a rare Minolta 100/2

true. however, Sony had to boost their camera features (ergo, handling and stuff) a lil bit more (especially their budget dslrs), other than High ISO. although an A500 + 135mm combo will do just fine for those who don't demand much from the camera.

Oh, I didn't mean it as in actually going out and buying the lens and camera, I was just shocked at the price for the A*.
Hey, I switched from Sony to Pentax myself, mostly because I didn't like where their cameras are going. And yes, the K7 does run circles around the A700, features-wise... (that's Sony's closest competitor to the K7, not A500/550, which are even worse in some regards, IMHO)

that's the complain I have with Sony. I just dont get their logic of making affordable cameras at the expense of crippling the system. I believe that Sony wants to maximize their profit as much as they can without having to sacrifice lessening the value of their cameras, but rather minimizing the costs by removing some parts. their new sensors maybe good, but it is not the sum of all things.

I just did the math, and $1725 equals 95 Brazilian hookers in Rio, all under 30.

Well, I guess we each have our own priorities. But seriously:

Thank you for bringing LBA to a new level, and for making me feel better about my own acquisitions.

And those to come!

Adam just PM'd me, and he doesn't know what to do:

It was a typo, and he meant to write $1,000.

HAH!!!!

Actually, this may be the best lens Pentax ever produced. Furthermore, Zeiss doesn't make any af lenses for Pentax mount and the Alpha mount version of it sells for $1500 from BH. Even the canon f2 L glass is $1000.

This is mecca among 135mm lenses. These A* lenses didn't sell cheap new and there weren't that many of them produced.

I'm just waiting for Pentax to come out with the AF WR version. That will be a stellar lens indeed.
