So true, I own both the tak and a K and I have good reason to conclude the Tak is sharper than the K. Though I never took the initiative to confirm that. If anything, its probably QC variances or tolerances between them.
Having said that, I stuck my 1.7 on a 2X Viv macro converter to make a poor man's 100mm macro. Even so... I don't know if I could ever sell it, I hate selling anything camera related, even the useless stuff!

I guess that makes me a hoarder

I think Ill go for the K55 1.8. I have been tempted by a fast 50 from the "A" range but I hear the build quality is inferior to Ks & Ms, so I might get an M50 1.4 if I find one for a good price, and maybe sell of the M 1.7. I am also considering a Katz Eye focusing screen as I hear its much better than the standard one, and what good is it having fast glass if its almost impossible to focus it properly?

In July, you'll see an F50/1.7 for $180. Ooooh, autofocus! An A position on the aperture ring! Better snap that up, it's a great price. You should definitely sell... something. No one needs three lenses that are that close in performance. Except the M is so nice to manually focus, the K is even better, and wow, the F really sucks. And the M looks good on that film body that just showed up looking for a home...
Nice story... except that the F50/1,7 does not suck, at all. I've used an M50/2 ; A50/1,4 and F50/1,7, and I kept the F50. Autofocus is nice of course, AF is almost as smooth as an M lens (you can tell it was the first generation of AF lenses, they damped the AF ring somewhat). It's sharp enough to hurt, bokeh is typical f1,7 (not as smooth as an f1,4 but better than some). It looks very cool to me, and it's reliable.

Long story short, all the 50s are excellent, and even though we can pick and nick at them, differences are marginal.

if you can get a good price for the 50 1.7 its good to sell. they can usually be found with beat up old ME cameras for $10 dollars altogether. The K55 1.8 I have seen goes for a tad more and is nicer, but the super takumar 55 1.8 is rather cool to have and can usually be had for about the same price as a lens cap.

Ive ordered the K55 but will keep an eye open for a good M 50 1.4 to have something faster. It may be a few weeks until I get hold of it though as I need my folks to forward it to me. I will see how it does when it arrives.

Thanks guys for all the help

As for nasty bokeh, check the user reviews section of this site (Pentax Lens Review Database - SMC Pentax 55mm F1.8 Lens Reviews) & you will see three pics from jsherman999. The first one has the most horrendous bokeh Ive ever seen.
I love that photo and that was the reason why I bought the 55mm.
