The FA*85 is indeed one for the best lenses that I have for people photography. The combination of FL and fast aperture just makes for very good subject isolation.

Let's keep this topic on top!

The lens renders textures and metals exceptionally well. At least that's my impression.

Let me just post a blooper instead. This is what happens when you don't stop down enough. Extremely sharp on the left, soft on the right

While I've got the A*85 and not the FA*, I agree with everything you say. Especially I found this interesting:

I've also finalized by travel kit for this summer:
---
FA* 85mm
FA* 200mm F4 Macro (primarily for macro shots, as well as tele's when that extra reach is really needed).

Conclusion:
Get this lens while you can and sell off everything else!
I'm absolutely prepared to relieve you of your FA* 200mm F4 Macro, at a (for me) favourable price!

I have changed my avatar in honor of the designer of the FA* 85/1.4 and other gems like the FA* 80-200 and the FA* 77/1.8 and 43/1.9 Limited

I've joined the club. After 3 years of lusting and almost buying several times, I finally pulled the trigger. My only regret is I didn't do it sooner and tried several 85mm options as 'just as good as'. Decent? Yes. As good as? HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHell no!

I've not put it through any real paces yet but my initial impressions of this gem almost have me ready to unload my FA77 Ltd (but not quite ).

Those shots are wonderful, especially the low light one... I really cannot wait to see how the lens performs on the K-5, in bad light conditions. Would I be able to shoot street portraits in the dark?

Thank you, I think you meant mine. Between this lens and the K28f2 that should be here in a week, my camera budget is smoked. I'm looking at after Christmas (if at all) for a K5 so someone else will have to step up and show the K5 FA*85 combo.
