I can't comment exactly on the lens you are looking at. As I have a different version of that lens (Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO (AF Lens))

As for the lens itself I found it pretty good for the price I paid for it. It's not the sharpest lens in the world but it does get pretty decent pictures with good colour. My version of the lens gets soft past 200mm. In addition to just image quality. The lens suffers from severe noisy. It's not quiet at all when focusing.

From what I know the APO version of the lens has only improvements in terms of CA. In my opinion you should widen your budget a little bit more and you could probably get the Tamron equivalent or perhaps the APO version of the Sigma. These can be had for $100-$150.

I have had good results from mine. I find it quite sharp at the shorter ends of the zoom. From around 220-300mm, it a little soft wide open but at around f11, it's still pretty sharp. The close up/macro feature does a very good job. There have been numerous threads about both the Sigma and the Tamron 70-300 and both are similar in quality and price. Any real differences will probably be an issue of individual copys of the lens. I think these lenses do a very good job for the price. Stopped down to f/8-f/11, they can hold their own with most of the higher priced longer zooms. As long as the copy you are buying is in good condition and working order, I would consider it a good buy.
