by the aperture not working, do you mean that when mounted to the camera using an M42 to K mount adaptor, the aperture is always at minimum?
If this is the case, you need to modify the lens to force the aperture open to the setting.
This is usually achieved by removing the lens mount, and placing a small spacer over the apterture activation pin, forcing it to always push the mechanism back.
I used the clean end of a ball point pen revil, cut about 3mm long to slide over the pin on one lens.
This modification needs to be done on any lens that is auto aperture (i.e. an aperture pin) that is lacking the auto manual switch.
There is a thread somewhere in the forum stating that a company in the UK is now making M42 to K mount adaptors with a shoulder incorporated that will automatically engage the pin when the lens is mounted.
DO a search to see if you can find it, it was within the last 2 weeks.
