Man I really want a Sigma 180mm macro........

I see these for sale for every mount but Pentax of course. Does anyone know if there is a way to mod a Sony or Minolta or Sigma mount lens to work on a Pentax? I don't even care about auto focus. Aperture would be nice though. It seems like there are a lot of these lenses out there for everyone but us, and at not ridiculous prices. If you do see a used one for Pentax they go over $1K.

I know wah wah wah!

You can buy one here (maybe since it has been discontinued).

Aden Camera

This may be the single best long macro lens still(?) available new for Pentax. Get it while you still can!

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. They don't have any. I have been looking at dealers and they are just all gone far as I can tell.

I sold mine a little over a month ago. It is a nice lens but too big for anything but a tripod. In a pinch you can use it on a monopod, but trying to hand hold it for macro shots is pretty impossible (at least for me). I had mine for well over 2 years and I probably used it 4 times because it was so unwieldly.

NaCl(I didn't find it all that great as a medium tele either)H2O

Well I guess I'll keep using my Tamron 90mm macro & Viv macro focusing TC until I stumble onto one of these. I use a tripod for just about everything so I would be fine with that.

Thanks,

George

I would suggest e-mailing Sigma to find out whether these are just out of stock or out of production entirely.

it's a damn good lens...however it has an annoying 72mm filter thread. which means you have to get a step down ring 72~67 to fit the Pentax AF160FC ringflash. However, in use I have found even on full frame camera there is negligible vignetting.

Well I have purchased the lens that was just put up for sale here. I hope it meets my expectations, I'm really excited about it. Within a couple of weeks I'll either be selling the 180 or my Tamron 90 & TC.......................or maybe I'll keep both

Thanks again for the heads up!

Keep both. The Tamron is great, and the Siggie 180 is outstanding.

I wasn't aware that the Pentax mount had been discontinued.

Here is one:

Sigma Lens 180mm f/3.5 APO EX DG IF Macro HSM - Pentax Mount

Here's another:

Sigma APO 180mm F3.5 EX DG HSM MAC | Camera-Warehouse

And another:

Sigma 180mm F3.5 EX DG HSM Pentax Mount Discounted Now at Camerastore.com.au

These are all in Australia, but if you can't find one in the USA, then it could be worthwhile trying these.

Great lens - here's an example:

"Spider web in the sunset, about 10 metres away from me, and shot with Sigma 180mm Macro."

Good luck with the hunt
