[langtitle=pl]Smc-m 24-35/3.5[/langtitle]

Is this lens worth looking for? I need this range to get faster on the streets, without going into constant changing between 24/2.8, 28/2.8 and 35/2.8.

Unfortunately, it's somewhat rare, hence the question.

I have this lens and I'm going to say, "No...it's not worth looking for". Not because it's a bad lens, but because I think there are better alternatives in that range these days. IMHO, it's biggest drawback is it's limited range. This was one of my main lenses when I would put together a kit for walking around back in my film days. It was sturdy, felt good in my hand, had good sharpness, and was very easy to use. However, now that I'm shooting digital, I find myself reaching for my 18-55 kit lens instead of the 24-35. Even though the kit lens is a bit slower, I gain an extended range, plus a ton of convenience, while not giving up much (if anything) in IQ.

whoops, I forgot to say it's totally for non-digital purposes, I've got Chinon CE-4s and digital isn't coming anytime soon. 18mm is too wide, people look grotesque and out of proportions. but I like the "sturdy, felt good in my hand, had good sharpness, and was very easy to use" part.

or maybe should I get the FAJ 18-35? or phoenix/cosina/soligor 19-35? honestly, I don't need more than 24mm, maybe some experiments with architecture, but still...24-35 draws much less attention. the discuss remains open.

How about the FA 20-35 F4.0?

If the the lens is not too slow for you, I can heartily recommend the FA 20-35. It's a constant aperture lens, and quite sharp even wide open. It is also close focusing, not really macro, but you can get pretty close. It's biggest plus to my belief is that it's color rendition is just about as good as it gets. It's also pretty small so it makes a good "street lens". I use it primarily for gardens where it's just about perfect. It it was a F2.8 lens it would be perfect.

nice, thanks for reply. unfortunately I must add that low price is one of the priorities. well, I got smc-m 50/1.7 for approx. 40$ and takumar bayonet 135/2.5 for 45$ here in Poland, I'm not sure if I can spend more than 100$ for a lens. 150$ is definitely a maximum.

ok, here we go again:

smc-m 24-35/3.5
cosina/phoenix/soligor 19-35/3.5-4.5

FAJ is out since there is no aperture ring (I forgot to tell about fully manual body)

fa 20-35/4 is too expensive

what else do we have?

So I got SMC-M 24-35/3.5, truly a bargain - 190$ The range is perfect, because - while having this wide angle, very appropriate for a document - I'm still in need of a fast 50mm lens and I got SMC-M 50/1.7, so I can sell 35/2.8 and 135/2.5, the second being totally not for my purposes. Then I can starting pursuing 50/1.2, ah...'Tis a neverending story
Anyway, thanks for help, tomorrow's the first street shooting with new lens...fingers crossed.
