Just got my A 70-210

All I can say is, WOW!!! OK, I paid a little to much but it is like new, the case included. Put the K10D on TAv mode and snapped off a few just to see if all the auto features work. It took a couple of EV clicks to get a great histogram but that's fine. With as shaky as my old hands are I'll have to shot 1/90 shutter speed which seems reasonable. This is not a small lens nor is it light. When on the camera it won't fit in my LowPro 100 very well and will have to figure out what I'm going to do about that.

All and all, I'd say this is a real winner. Still need to print out a few to confirm it.

Regards,

Ken

I'm glad you like it! In fact, I just picked up mine today as well. :P (I have the CPC Phase II rebrand previous).,

Let us know how it is!

How much is reasonable for that lens?

What is the reasonable price to be considered for that lens. Pete gets me all thinking about the lens mentioned with his twin picture showing 2 copies. His LBA thing is very contagious and I hope the reply with price will cool me off from that thought.

Thanks,
Hin

Hin, its all those potraits (some with creamy bokeh) of lenses I keep posting all over the place isn't it? =P

haha honestly I'm totally trashed by LBA/GAS. I'm so badly infected its not funny.

Like, I think part of my reasoning behind the K Mount is quite sound because it offers alot of photographic potential for the price paid. You'll hear me always pitching manual over AF because logically its money saved while IQ stays relatively the same. But on the other hand I'm soo gear addicted and the prices always seem so good, I gotta have more of it and end up spending probably as much on a bunch of oldies as the folks who save and then spend the $$ into buying one good fast lens.

I couldn't have even justified the purchase of the SMC-A. I already have the CPC Phase II 70-200/4, Vivitar 75-205/3.8, RMC Tokina II 200/3.5...I knew it on the spot and I still bought it. I was playing around with a Sanwa (Sigma rebrand) 70-210/2.8-3.5 at the moment and was baffled at the purple fringing. Then I eyed the SMC-A on the shelf and asked to try that to compare CA control. Then I bought the SMC-A....just like that.

Usually that lens runs a bit past the $100 mark on ebay. F4 is not far off from f5.6 and from what I've seen, I'd suggest you keep your DA 50-200. Don't spend an extra $150 (remember shipping etc.) to waste a $200 purchase. =P

Even worse just a few days ago, I chucked out almost $300CAN (huge for me) for a new Tamron XR 28-200mm just cuz I said to myself I needed something light cuz the weight of Ownuser K100D Grip (w/ 12 NiMHs loaded) was straining my neck and to attach metal zoom was too much. (theres like 10+ lenses that I have that overlap with my Tamron haha)

Pete,

I posted the only shot I've gotten https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/10537-new-old-len-moose.html
been doing some test shooting of people on the street out my window in hopes of learning how to use the lens.

Regards,
Ken

Try shooting with it out in the daylight because at f4, its going to be rather hard to hand hold effective and not incur handshake.
