Need advice for a couple lens rentals...

Hey guys,

Next week I am gonna be going to Southern California for a retreat. I would like to bring a couple types of lenses that I don't currently own.
The first would be a fast, autofocus people/general purpose lens to take pictures of my friends, people on the street, etc. For this I was thinking of renting either the DA 70 f2.4 Limited, or the FA 43 f1.9 Limited. I really wanted to rent the DA 35 f2.8, but it's out of stock for two weeks. (btw, I'm going to rent from cameralensrentals.com)

The second would be a UWA, something like the Sigma 10-20 for coastline photos, long-exposure waterscapes, etc.

Now, the DA* 16-50mm would seem to fit all my needs, however I've heard it's not very good on the wide end, which would be important to me.

Any thoughts on what I should rent?
TIA to everybody.

I can only address the first part. I would go with the 43 mm without question based on what you have intended to do with it.

What lenses do you currently own? Maybe we could build from there...

Thanks very much for the advice.

I currently own the DA-L 18-55mm, FA-J 75-300mm, Pentax-M 50mm f1.7, Pentax-M 200mm f4 and an old cheap M-style 28mm f2.8.

I know a person about an hour and a half away who is selling a mint-condition Sigma EX DC 24-60mm f/2.8, for $200, which might be perfect for my trip.. I'm just not sure if I'll have time to drive down and get it with all the packing, etc I'm busy with.

The Sigma would be a good choice indeed. Otherwise, go with lenses that fit your shooting style (for instance, if your most used lens is the 50, go with an AF version between 43-55 mm).

Last vacation I had 10-20 on the K-x and the DA 40 on the K10d... It was a bliss. Such a nice combi. Sometimes I wish I can outfit the K-x with the 50-200, but only sometimes. 90% of the time the 10-20 and 40 combo really can do wonders. So I think you'll do fine with either 10-20 + 43 or 15 + 43. (10-20 and 15 have the same maximum magnification rate, by the way, if you happen to need some close focus stuff)
