Don't talk rubbish of course everyone needs an 85mm f1.4 and also its big brother 135mm f1.8 if you havn't got it already.

I think it is interesting that saying you are going to end buying 35mm SLR lenses just because you plan to step up to Medium Format in a few months is not a cure of LBA, only a postponment of a much more serious form of it.

I personally won't be cured of LBA ever, because there will always be something out there that I will get. Aside from filling a few holes in my present setups, like a 16mm, 35 and 200mm for my K mount Manual focus kit and a 17mm fisheye or something simila0r, and a 100mm for my M42 kit, I can still see me getting a lens with a front end diameter bigger than 100mm some time, not sure MF or AF but it is still out there threatening.

Alright, Mr. A* . . . . You are no help at all. I see that you are lined up with pretty good there. 85 and 135 both . . . . I didn't know that was allowed on this forum.

Seriously, I thought about getting an A* 85 in Japan last week. It was a BEAUTIFUL copy. Bayonet mount on the lens looked unused. 120,000 yen, about $1,300 us. The salesperson said he has never seen a cleaner copy. There was also somewhat of a crappy copy of A* 200 macro. I hesitated, and went back the next day and it was gone (thank you Lord).

Some medical professionals may call it a denial. I need a 12 step program. My wishful thinking says that once I go MF, things that I will shoot at will be somewhat different from what I do with that tiny APS-C sensored camera, and that would restrain me from going overboard.

Very very doubtful. It is very painful to admit that a company who make lenses for eye glasses and so on got me by the balls. Very painful.

I do?

Okay.

(Remember--I'm NOT the one trying to wash myself clean of LBA.)

Does anyone else here notice the correlation between lens cost and LBA satisfaction?

I find my LBA to be more highly sated (albeit temporarily) when I pay too much for something. When I get a bargain, it hardly feels like I bought anything.

Ira, very interesting view. I have thought about that, you know, what we get out of LBA and all. Correlation between lens cost and satisfaction to me is not there. But rarity of the lens may, I suppose. Having a lens that are hard to find seems like it gives you an edge, more or less. Speaking of bargains, I recently bought a M42 Takumar 300/4 for about $150 in Japan. It was a pristine copy, but besides that I was blown way by how good of pictures it takes. I mean it was about to (notice - it wasn't that it did) open up a whole new area of LBA. I know that many of you are crazy about Takumars, and I now clearly see why. I got a couple of them; 17 fisheye, which is a very very cool lens, and 300/4. Maybe it is the IQ/Cost ratio that gives us the willey. After that Tak 300/4 purchase, it certainly left a bad taste in my mouth about FA ltds and all. What a rip off, really.

So may be I should make Tak lenses exempt . . . . .

No, I shouldn't.

Somebody help me please.

I picked up a ver2 model 1 Super Tak 28 and a pre-set Tak 35mm f4 relatively cheap and am pretty happy with myself.

Good luck. I tried to do a similar thing over the past 6 months, planning to sell lenses and acquire a K-7. It worked out eventually, but along the way I bought a K300/4, three Adaptall lenses, a Sigma 28/1.8, and some other stuff. I just had to work harder to balance out the books, and I like the additional lenses.

Although I regards your posts very highly, please refrain from posting about your recent purchases, no matter how good or bad of a deal it was. It is killing me.

Because of your post, I now had to go look at these lenses. Gee, Blue, thanks a lot. I am doomed. It has not even been 24 hours yet.

Good luck. I was able to stop buying stones and beads when I found the K-X. Now the stone and bead addiction has turned into a camera accessory addiction. Until I get used to the K-X-then that will probably turn into a LBA. Just can't win.

Just think of all of the wall sized posters you will be able to print with the files from the 645D.

You still need lenses to do that.

The day I stop buying lenses, will also mark the end of photography for me.
that would be the most logical and correct answer.
