Why is the Sigma 17-70 cheaper than Sigma 18-125?

Just browsing a local online camera store during lunch time today and notice that the Sigma 17-70 is cheaper than the sigma 18-125....did a google search and it appears that the sigma 17-70 has much better IQ than the 18-125.

The sigma 17-70 sells for A$339 and the Sigma 18-125 sells for A$440.

Sigma Lens 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC MAC - Digital Camera Warehouse Australia

Sigma 18-125mm f3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM - Digital Camera Warehouse Australia

Any idea why this is the case or did the camera store make a mistake in their pricing?

The 18-125 has fancy bits, Optical stabilisation and in lens motor,
The 17-70 is just an awesome versatile lens for the price!

That particular Sigma lens has been replaced by a new Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 that has optical stabilization and HSM. I am guessing that someone is getting rid of older stock to clear the way for the new lenses which cost quite a bit more.

In any case, the 18-125 has more glass in it, so it's more expensive just because the raw materials are more expensive and it takes longer to assemble. And people will pay more for longer zooms (market plays a role in everything )
