Has anyone tried replacing SDM motor to DC?

Has anyone tried replacing SDM motor to ordinary DC motor? Something like the one you can find inside RC model servos.
Since they are not true ring type wave drive, but micro motor, they should be much easier to replace. Still it might be hard to disassemble the lens, but you wont have to replace lot of it's construction, only the motor.

From the other hand, it could be too hard to bypass the ultrasound drive circuitry. Maybe the drive signal gets modulated in a way, that allows precision focusing and stepping. This could make it hard to convert the lens to simple DC motor.
