SMC DA 50-135 f2.8 in stock at B&H

B&H is listing this as in stock. I'm assuming that this is the same as the DA* 50-135. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Hardly likely! The DA * 50-135mm/2.8 lists for $999.95 at several sites and this lens is $200 cheaper. Unless Pentax dropped the price vs. the DA *16-50mm/2.8 ($899.95) it's not the one everyone (including me!) wants.

This is only 30$ less than Adorama was charging for advanced orders in June. I think this is the DA*....there is no other 50-135 f2.8 that it could be.

Reckon we'll see when the full details on the lens comes out! But a quick Google search before my last post showed the price I quoted as the best current one for the DA * lens! Time will tell!

I will find out in 5-7 days.

I meant to wait for the 60-250, but LBA has been itching at me (hell, I have even been thinking of switching to the dark side just as an excuse to buy more equipment)

Me, too. Decided to put my money where my proverbial mouth was. This is the lens I have been waiting since last Fall to have. I hope it is worth the wait.
PS: Thanks Mr. Hyde.

I would love this lens but at the moment I cant justify the expense. I have a Sigma 50-500mm on order. I'm going to have to wait for my lens fund to replenish. Good luck and happy shooting for those who ordered.

FWIW, B&H is usually very good about posting accurate info to their site. They were closed yesterday when SloPhoto and Wethphotography placed their orders and just opened this morning. If it's an error, you'll likely know later today.

My bet is that it is in stock, Pentax lowered the price and you two will have yours soon and be providing feedback for the rest of us.

Yours truly,

Pollyana

It's Official!

I just had an on-line chat with B&H. Here's the transcript:

=================

TYRONE: Did you have a question?
Scott: Is PE50135DA actually "in stock" and shippable?
TYRONE: Yes, it is.
TYRONE: And yes, I checked.
Scott: LOL! Hey! I believe you! It's just that Pentax announced it a LONG time ago and the price is a bit lower than originally predicted.
TYRONE: Ok, so why not call us now and order it? We're open and ready to take orders this morning.
TYRONE: (800) 606-6969
(800) 962-3999

=================

Gentlefolks, start your credit cards!

That is extremely tempting considering that here in Canada the price for the 50-135 is $1250 whereas if B&H has it for $799 that's around $850 canadian which still puts it under $1000 after taxes

Pentax SMC-DA 50-135mm f/2.8 ED SDM LENS
You are correct. I purchased one last week for about this amount. The lens is very well built and the contrast is excellent. The lens is smaller than I expected it to be... which is nice.

Overall it is quality through and through... but it won't part the Red Sea and magically make great pictures. That is done on the other side of the camera It handles lighting transitions very well though there occasionally will be some very minor CA. Too early to tell but the only CA I have seen at various focal lengths is about 1/3 in from the right side of the image and that was only a pixel wide. so, overall CA's look to be fairly well controlled.

It is a very good addition to Pentax's lens lineup. Nice to see them finally being delivered.

I have not done any testing with it yet but have cranked off a couple of snapshots. Images appear sharp, perhaps as sharp as the Sigma 70-200 2.8, but those tests will be forthcoming, but the relative lightness of the lens makes steadying it a little more of a challenge than the Sigma.

B&H is one of the best merchants I have dealt with online! If they say it is in stock, it is in stock. If they say it can be ordered and arrive soon, it will! They are, IMHO, trustworthy and competent. Now, if they only carried more Pentax gear in stock!
