Good Zoom Lens for Pentax K1000?

I have my Pentax K1000 camera as a bacup to my more expensive digital SLR camera, I normally use it for vacations and the occasional black & white session. I am going to be going on a family vacation soon and I will be in need of a zoom lens. My first choice would be a manual focus lens made for the K1000, but if those are not easily obtainable then using any other lens that would work with the camera would suffice.

Auto focus lenses can still be used with the K1000 sans the auto focus ability, correct?

i don't know a sausage about film cameras, but I know that Mo's compatibility chart exists:
The Pentax Camera Lens Compatibility Chart

So in terms of new lenses you have a limited choice. I don't know how many DFA/FA/F lenses are still produced and/or stocked by shops (im shopping for lenses 2nd hand, but this can be time consuming). If you do see any lenses in shops/on ebay, certainly give https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/ and PhotoZone a look!

On the other hand, i believe lenses like my Tamron 28-200mm (which I have no complaints about) will work on a full frame camera and given that the k1000 has no electronic communication with lenses, I can't see that there would be an issue. But I'm probably not the best person to ask!

the zoom lens must have an aperture ring to function on your K1000. These are limited to:

K, M, A, F, FA. (Do not buy FAJ or DA lenses)

If your nice and overzealous.

But really, any old lens will work good, stopped down a ways. F/11 will save you if you just want anything to work. And ebay can give you some great deals on the older pentax zooms.

if the lens works on the k1000 it'll work on the digital.
about zoom lenses? you don't state a range you are looking for.. 10mm-20mm or 400mm-800mm. just saying ZOOM doesn't say what you are wanting to shoot.

I don't really know what range you are looking for in the lens but for an all-around zoom the Pentax A 35-105mm/3.5 is hard to beat. Probably one of the best manual focus zoom lenses that Pentax ever made IMHO (you should be able to buy one for less than $150).
