Pentax DA 40mm is it weather resistant?

I am thinking of getting the da 40mm pancake lens to pretty much be my default lens.

With this in mind I am wondering if it is weather resistant and can be used in the rain?

Thanks.

Spray it down good with water repellant.

Not specificallty WR, but as small as it is, it's simple to protect it from rain just cupping your hand over it, or using a small plastic bag.

That works only in light rain for the front glass. If the rain gets a bit stronger, there is a risk that water streams coming from top of the camera will stream down around the lens mount. Without the O ring they will enter lens and camera.

The front glass is not sealed and water can sneak in, not a pretty sight.

So much for spraying it down with water repellant.

Maybe you should consider the weather resistant 18~55... I just bought one and it's pretty decent lens at a give away price. Relatively speaking, the value here is tremendous. This is a good and inexpensive alternative to the DA* lenses.

True enough - so in heavy rains, a larger plastic bag is in order.
