Which One?

I've got two basic Takumars in my kit now.

SMC 55MM 1:1.8/55 (M42)

Super Takumar 1.14/50 (M42)

I'm thinking I want to sell one of them since I don't really need two lenses in the same range, and I could use the $$$ towards getting a 200MM for my kit, but I'm wondering which one is the better lens in terms of selling? I checked the lens pages and they're rated about the same in terms of picture taking.

I wanted some personal opinions as to which one is the more desired lens. Which one would you flip if you had the choice and they both looked okay? I'm not sure about the 55MM yet. It's enroute with my SP2, but the 50MM is in just amazing shape. If the 55MM isn't in bad shape though I suppose I'll sell one or the other.

50MM or 55MM, which or does it even matter?

Thanks!

Well, you can't go wrong with either of them! I guess it would depend on which one you could get more $$$ for.

The 1.4 will sell between $75 and $100, depending on where and how you sell it.

I would never let this lens go.

Or the 55.

is the super tak the 7 element version or the origonal 8 element version?

The origonal 8 element one you may never want to let go of.

It is the only 50mm F1.4 lens with this optical formula, all others are 7 element lenses

If you need money, sell the more expensive one, 50 1.4. Though, it sounds like that is very good, which I would definitely keep and sell 55 1.8 (I have the K mount).

It's a really tough call and why I say for the minimal money you're going to get selling them, keep them both, although similar in FL.

They're very different lenses, with the 1.8, although slower, displaying sharper characteristics on many levels.

My 58mm Helios 44-2 (F2!!!) is an entirely different lens than my S-Tak 50 1.4, so both have to stay in my arsenal for those differences.

The Helios is slower, but the Bokeh is freaking CRAZY on that thing!

that really is shameless, glad to see I am not alone

actually there are also a couple including an old preset takumar with 18 blade aperture on e-bay right now.

magkelly- You don't really need that much for a 200F3.5 so sell the cheaper lens and keep the F1.4

ROFLOL!!!

Just hang on with the "shameless plugs" bit! I haven't even gotten the $$$ in my wallet yet! I'll have no money to spend till I do. I was a bad girl at Goodwill and bought my SPII (<3) and that kit of all sorts of lenses and filters and other stuff so I'll have to watch my $$$ a bit at least till I sell something.

I'll probably have to sell one or the other to be able to afford a long lens. It's a simple question of economics. I can't afford to keep both and I really do want and need a longer lens for nature photography. But I've still got those unknown mount lenses in the auction lot that I won also, so it may be that I can just sell those and get the rest of my Pentax kit lenses that way. I still need an M42 wide angle, a macro set, and a longer lens from 200MM-300MM.

I guess which one goes will depend upon what the 55MM looks like. If it's not near pristine it would probably make more sense in terms of market to keep the 55MM and sell the 50MM. I could live with the 55MM I guess. I have to check how many elements though. I'm honestly not sure.

Keep both!
You won't regret. I have 43/1.9, 50/1.2 and 55/1.8. Don't worry you'll find use for both... Besides, 50 is bit more general use length and 55 is great for portraits (on APSC that is).
