Pentx K7 with F 50mm 1.7 lens good combo?

making good photos, is more than a camera and lens, I know I have both and still can't make a good photos...

Taking good photos definitely requires a good eye and a sense of awareness of your surroundings. Assuming you have a good eye, That combination is absolutely fantastic. It'll make ugly photo opportunites look good!

I've had the k10d and FA 50mm 1.4 and currently have the FA 50mm 1.7 and they are both fantastic. The K7 can only make it better.

Now that's for sure. I was just goofing around. Actually I jus bought a used F 50mm 1.7. My wife should be giving birth any day now to a baby girl, and I figured I needed a 50mm lens to go bicture crazy with the baby! And sice I,m waiting around for the lens and the baby, might as well get input from buddies at THE forum for opinions....So is K7 and F50mm 1,7 a goog kit for baby and family pics?

I absolutely love my F50/1.7. Very sharp and contrasty wide open. Just remember to use hood. I use those rubber extend-able hoods, so it is always easy to flip it on and keep on camera. Improves image quality and offers protection.
It performs best at close distances and under dim light.

Well for one thing, by shielding the lens from ambient light, hoods heighten contrast and saturation.

Reducing glare, the same way the visors in your car allow you to see better.

The hood can also offer some protection (e.g. your fingers) to the lens:

F50/1.7 terrible lens... I'll take it off you for $50 and slap it on my terrible K10D

Now seriously, you can put F50/1.7 on just about anything and it'll deliver. It's a great lens IMO.

pictures of what? why? why do you even want a camera? if an slr cost £10,000 would you still buy one?

i'm not trying to be a jerk, but SLR's are so cheap these days that so many people have them with no clue about why they own one, figure out why you want to take pictures, what drives you- camera's and lenses are just tools to get the job done, and the 50mm 1.7 is a perfect lens to allow you to do that as it will shoot exactly what you see

see with your eyes, not with your lens- don't miss a moment by taking 10,000 pictures and forgetting to experience the event

there is an interesting tradeoff in photography where the moments you really should be experiencing for yourself, are the moments you really should be shooting

pro photographers dont shoot their own weddings

I have this combo, and I just don't use it enough. I need to force myself to use this lens in the near future. I seem to reach more naturally for my FA35 (more general-purpose focal length) or my FA77 (tighter head-and-shoulders portraits, which I like) instead of the F50/1.7.

But to answer your question, yes, it is a great combination.
